Three B-24Ds attack enemy shipping in open water. Look at what 36 1000 pounders can do!

Please do have in mind that this is not supposed to be an accurate representation of reality. That is why the video title begins with "IL-2 1946". I am aware of IL-2s flaws and there is no need to tell me of them. This is just a rough approximation of what such a raid could have been like, no history lesson.

This is a recording of a multiplayer mission in which three players took part. Thank you to:
# DarkenedFantasies & Tony Kito

Darky piloted "Puss 'n Boots", Tony "Special Delivery" and Fishyyy "Southern Beauty".

Great animation. My dad was a navigator in B-24s flying in the 90th Bomb Group/319th Sq. late in the war. He said when flying, you didn't hear anything except the engines or if someone was talking on the headset. The only exception was once their airplane was hit with flak in the nose armor (B-24J) just below the gunner. He speculated the shell didn't explode being below the altitude it would have been set for. No critical damage, but he said you felt and heard that. He also said you could feel the vibration when the gunners were shooting their .50 c machine guns.

Thanks for sharing.

The cinematic quality of this is really good. Much better than I would have expected from IL-2 1946!

Great video. Lots of dynamic shots and some desperation as well! Love the deep rumbling sounds of flak and guns. And the skip bombing technique is impressive!

I wish my father saw this video before he passed. He was squadron leader of B24s for 25 missions over Germany and France. Cool video

After losing that second engine, I'd have been like "Ok, guys.... you can mop it up from here. I'm saving my own ass." But, no.... this heroic simulator crew kept dishing out the punishment. We all owe you a debt of simulated gratitude.

Loved the "skip bombing"! Legit anti-ship technique used with great effect in WW2 in the Pacific theater. Much easier technique than trying to drop a bomb directly on a target.

Adding a flyable Liberator to the sim was great....would have liked a "J" but the D lets
you fly a lot of the earlier periods to.

I have been playing this since 2010 and I never knew you could skip bomb like that. I never even tried it. I just figured that those types of physics were never implemented. You learn something new every day!

Although I rarely attack naval targets. Maybe I should start

Skip bombing, interesting fact this tactic was used to great effect in the Pacific due to Japanese neglect to defend their supply convoys...

I was screaming to that B-24 at 15:33 to either use extinguishers or shut off the engine to stop the fire.

Read Log of the Liberators by Steve Birdsall. B-24s actually were used for skip bombing by the Navy patrol bomber squadrons. In Navy and Marine use it was called the PB4Y-1. There is a good photo of one with a 37mm stolen from a P-39.

The crew of the airplane that ditched near the convoy are in big trouble. Chop Chop!

I liked the nose art for Southern Beauty. And Special Delivery's nose art was realistic and had a memorable name.

My grandfather was a B-24 Bombardier in the South Pacific. Dropped bombs on Japan and elsewhere but he said they also bombed a lot Japanese Ships.

This was undoubtedly the most accurate bomb run ever by aircraft against ships... and by big heavy B-24s to boot! Via animation! If only it were really this easy.

A plane so sturdy yet so beautiful, love it.
