Hot mudd is even better for taping and filling but mixing it on a big job sucks but better results

Green is a must IMO. Never got bubbles once I started using it.

90 minute to tape and blue for top coat . But green is a good option if your not good with hot mud

For taping a base coat, I use quickset. Gets hard as hell and won’t crack

Drywalling isn’t my day job, so I haven’t done enough to need specific muds for each process as the economics don’t make sense. But I’ve seen plenty of people just mix wood glue in with blue top to get extra holding power.

There has been test done to show that hot mud with mesh tape is the strongest joint. Obviously you can't use mesh in corners, but I still use hot mud for 1st coat on everything. All purpose for next 2 coats and +3 for final. Topping for final is great if I can find it.

Proset 20 for back fill of up to 1/4" gap.
Con fill for backfill of up to a 1" gap.
Green for 2nd coat.
Blue for the final.

When sanding under light the colour texture and hardness difference between the mud layers will tell you to stop before you expose tape or beading.

When you use different muds (hot mud base, regular mud top etc.) you run the risk of sanding uneven. The different muds are effected by sanding differently.
If your base coat comes through the top anywhere, it will be hard to get things even.

I only used blue for last coat if you use it for three coats it will scratch easily
Or I use green for all coats isn’t hard to sand not sure why many people say is hard sanding

Started drywalling in 2019 and still learning. I make my mix a little thin so my tape is nice and moist. It stills well and drys fast and my joint is super flat. Make the next mix thicker and haven’t had issues. Start off hiring supposedly a professional and had to go behind him. Figured out I better learn. Watched countless of videos and a still do. Thank you for your post

Nah, that just shows you're a true craftsman. Someone who's willing to learn well into their career eventually makes them a master craftsman!!!🎉

I'm not there yet myself. Everyone I've met & would consider a master Craftsman was willing to learn from a journeyman if possible.

Hot mud for taping. Let every coat cure for a solid 24hrs. The time on the bag is working time, not cure time. Top with blue lid with a little water and a splash of dawn dish soap. Float with thinned blue lid.

For large gaps, cracks, and patches that youre too lazy to fill properly, use durabond...but that stuffs hard to find nowadays, i think cause it was too good of a product. Hardens like cement. You can make all sorts of designs out of it too. Its really cool stuff 😂😂😂 if youre into drywall like am 😂

Your works amazing tho. I love and appreciate your content.

Youre very talented

I use 90 Min hot mud for all taping and pre fill. You can then come in and do a top coat with plus 3 or lightweight the same day

To each there own but i like using hot mud to tape and blue lid for 3rd coat especially if im trying to get first 2 coats on in a day

Drywall has specific stages. Prefill, durarock or easy sand. Always hot mud to prefill or tape with mesh. All purpose for general taping. Plus 3 for top coat, also can tape with plus 3. If you do touch ups between different compounds you must prime it first then add more or you'll never be able to sand flat. Also you can apply it more or less dense based on how hard to push the knife into joints, especially filling gaps after first coat.

Theres mud for taping specifically, but fhe all purpose as the bame suggests is all purpose and should definitely be used over finishing mud. Like other people have said you can use hot mud for taping as well and it dries by the time youre done and you can already start another coat of mud. 20 minute hot mud works great for that but you have to move fast and not allow it to set before youre done with it
