Shawn Kemp's modern counterpart is actually Amare Stoudemire. Both came into the league, dominated early and fell off before hitting their prime. Of course, Shawn because of weight and Amare because of injury, but their career trajectories are about the same. And their game too. High-flyers with a jumpshot. Damn.

Isaiah Thomas' impression of Shawn Kemp dunking is now my ringtone.

Kemp was like Mike Tyson. He peaked earlier than most players and of course other stuff and off court stuff had a play but he dominated during his short time. I do think he could've been better than what he turned out to be. Like Tyson.

Booze, drugs, food and loose women were Kemp's downfall. The temptations as a pro athlete must be incredible. Kemp's my second favorite in game dunker of all time next to Vince Carter.

Changing teams really hurt both Kemp & Vin Baker. Kemp was a beast though. One of the most exciting players ever.

Kemp is a hall of famer! One of the biggest stars of the 90's and best in game dunker ever

Those early 90's Sonics teams were great fun.

I'm not sure why everyone references how hard shawn dunked, because it was his style and raw ability that made him special. truly a pleasure to watch, I miss the 90's sonics very much.

Kemp went from dominating fast breaks to devouring fast food...

Kemp was my favourite player. The first jersey I ever had. I loved the old school Sonics with Kemp, Payton and Kendall Gill.

There aren't too many players that are so special that you want to watch them play all the time because they might do something you never seen before. Shawn Kemp was one of those guys.

My friend brought me a shawn Kemp video years ago, his story from young age to the NBA, his story is incredible from not being able to walk to playing at a junior college to being a superstar in the early 90s

Kemp needed a mentor. Some people you can't reach no matter how talented they are. I LOVE Kemp and still love the city of Seattle.

Seattle was fun to watch. I remember so many games where they was trailing by double digits and it seems like they would always come storming back. And usually it was Payton and Kemp leading the charge. But the sweetest thing about that was while they was doing it the stadium would play the race car sound effects. That used to be so awesome. Great memories.

I think Kemp gets overlooked. Yeah, they had GP, but, Kemp was the guy players feared. He wasn't a "what if" guy in Seattle. He was a legit MVP candidate in the mid 90s.

hands down, Shawn Kemp was the best player on the court during the 1996 NBA Finals, which is crazy when you realize there were four Hall of Famers on the court at the same time
