My favourite historical archer (sort of)!

Found in the crypt of the church of the nativity in Prague, this painting is dated to 1663 and shows a skeleton using what could very well be a speed shooting technique similar to the one favoured by Lars Andersen.

At University, I had optional classes of Cutural History of Death. When discussing about the imagetic representations of death and the appearance of the decay or skeleton figure (the Reaper), the depiction of the Death as an Archer was said to be a representation of the Plague. Not necessary one specific plague episode, but of the peril and lethality of diseases and infirmities that surrounded life at the time. Death as an Archer could be seen as an indicative of its silence an quickness to kill, but also of how it kills by the bunches, hitting plenty and fast; targeting anyone indiscriminately and from far away, as no one could exactly know what caused.
Can't say if it's for this specific reason, but the fact that the image shows it holdind/shooting multiple arrows, it kinda gives said vibe.

I don't watch this man regularly but whenever he pops up for me it's delightful. He's just really into archery and it's great

This dudes a beast. He just casually explains multiple possibilities of what the skeleton could be doing while fluently demonstrating each possibility

Nerds existed hundreds of years ago. I find that really comforting for some reason

I respect how seamlessly you transition between multiple possibilities, without being cocky and all the while paying homage to drawing from times long gone .
Pretty cool.

This man is VERY confident in his ability to not miss and nail his camera when he puts it 2 inches away from a target.

The skeleton guy also has a cape on, which makes him double cool in my book

Dude the slickness of drawing the 3 arrows and then the transition to speed shooting. Holy cow!

How is no one talking about the fact that he turned someone’s fantasy into reality? I don’t care how old the oc is, or the creator, it just goes to show how unreal his actual talent is

Yeah, archers holding arrows in their hands is a well documented phenomenon. Saves you the second of time to grab it which can really add up, especially if an angry man with a big sword is running at you.

This is depiction of medival archer at a fair. It is suposed to happen before or in the time of Karel IV. It is nice to know that even our "funny" things are shared. Greetings from Czech Republic.

As an artist I can say that whoever made this picture has an amazing understanding of composition.
look how the sky surounding the bow is brighter, to add contrast and grab the viewer eyes to the focus point of the image.
also the wind direction, blowing the cape backwards contrast with the arrows pointing forward, this intensify the feeling of potential energy whem the bowstring is pulled.

You’re an incredible Archer! It’s very impressive seeing someone so good with a bow

There is something so confident about this man, that makes him extremely compelling.
