Schubert + Goethe + Liszt = ???

It all started with "Erlkönig," a poem by Goethe about a child who dies in his father's arms while seeing the Erlkönig (Elf king) in a fever dream. Franz Schubert composed a truly fitting piece for this poem, and Liszt arranged it for piano, turning it into a finger-breaking monster of a piano piece.

i might be wrong but in german folklore, the erlkonig is one of the 'fair folk', mischievous and sometimes malicious fairies that are, more often than not, stuff of nightmares; different than the fairies modern people know of
