WILD TROUT FISHING in PECOS RIVER (New Mexico)

Made the trip to the Pecos River in the Santa Fe National Forest to do some Trout fishing with a couple buddies. The water level was pretty low compared to usual but we still managed to hook a few good Brown Trout and a couple nice Rainbows. Hope you enjoy the video! When did the rules change? That section of the Pecos River, starting just above the Mora Confluence to Cowles and beyond, used to be Special Water; single barbless hook, no bait fishing.

I was born and raised in Las Cruces and ( living down south ) we used to go to Mescalero to stream fish, but I'm living in Kansas now and Mesca is a bit too far to go on a chance they'll be biting. What is the access like up there in Jemez?? Is it 4x4's only or could I make it there using my 2000 1/2 ton Silverado??

Those aint wild fish, EVERY single one is a stocker. I have fished every yard of the Pecos for 30 years,
If you want WILD fish in the Pecos, put on your daypack and hike 5 miles in to the headwaters above JACKS CREEK CAMPGROUND, you are then in the PECOS headwaters, only then are you catching WILD, UNSTOCKED trout.
It is well worth the effort, the fish are gorgeous.
