Interest rate cut could be ‘on the table’ in 2024

CBA Head of Australian Economics Gareth Aird discusses the Reserve Bank's decision to hold the cash rate at 4.35 per cent.
“No one knows where the data is going to print, if the data is to come in on the softer side on the inflation for Q3 for what they forecast and or the unemployment rate is lifting more material than what they forecast, then that can bring a rate,” Mr Aird told Sky News host Business Editor Ross Greenwood.
“I think the governor doesn’t want to get hopes up among households and businesses that rates could be going lower this year.
“If the data prints in a certain configuration, then a rate cut will come onto the table.”
