This is a wonderful movie. The scene with his mother hit really close to home for me. He was in his mid 30s and Im nearing my mid 40s, live with and take care of my mother and still a bachelor who does want to settle down, but simply can't find someone. And it does get frustrating and tiring to keep searching and having disappointment and heartache. Especially when friends and family keep telling me to find someone and I simply can't can be tiresome and annoying. The movie and acting was a joy to watch and I had a nice time watching it. Take care everyone!

This movie really took hold of Ernest Borgnine's likability, gentleness and kindness. He's played the heavy and the bad guy in so many films and did well (Willard comes to mind, and of course From Here to Eternity). But ultimately, he just can't hide his gentle heart and soul, and shines brightest here. The Academy thought so, that's for sure.

This movie has parallels to Back To The Future, since both movies deal with a person named Marty (McFly), the year “1955” and how there is a teacher named Clara, which was also the name of a teacher in 1855 in Back To The Future III.

I have seen this movie many times and just recently as well. Has it ever occurred to anyone tgat Angie is likely gay. Watch it again and see hiw he looks and talks about woman. He never wants Marty to be happy with a woman. He talks about double dating but he actually looks at it as he is on a date with Marty. Ofcourse Marty is unaware of Angie's interest in him. Call me crazy, but that is what I observed. Dies anyone else think my theory has any validity.?
