Hal David wrote these great lyrics, Burt wrote the music, but nobody ever sang it like this lady, it was written with her voice in mind for a reason.... Dionne Warwick & Burt Bacharach • “What The World Needs Now...” / Medley • 1970 [RITY Archive]

Burt Bacharach will be missed. One of the all-time greats in my humble opinion.

He usually didn’t sing he was the writer composer and Dionne Warwick was the dominant vocalist of his music

Never heard this version before. Jackie DeShannon recorded this Burt Bacharach tune in 1965.

Burt Bacharach and Hal David; awesome writing duo. Jacqui de Shannon's version is great. And yes, I agree the world needs more but sadly we seem to be running out.

Great song. Best version is by Dionne Warwick...give a listen and see what you think.

This sounded like sections of same song- different covers put together. The Jackie DeShannon cover was a big hit, the one that was on the radio a lot. But Burt wrote it. RIP.

Dione Warwick and The Carpenters had great success with Burt Bacharach songs. The psychedelic guitar lines and the echoed vocals on his version of the song are interesting, especially the rocked out vamp at the end. According to his Wikipedia entry, Bacharach wrote seventy-three U.S. and fifty-two UK Top 40 hits, including "(They Long to Be) Close to You" (the Carpenters, 1970) "This Guy's in Love with You" (Herb Alpert, 1968), "Raindrops Keep Fallin' on My Head" (BJ Thomas, 1969), "The Look of Love" (Dusty Springfield 1967). Dione Warwick recorded so many of his songs the years all string together. To name a few -- "Walk On By", "Anyone Who Had a Heart", "I Say a Little Prayer", "I'll Never Fall in Love Again", and "Do You Know the Way to San Jose" -- which used to always catch my ear when I was a kid because my father's uncle lived in San Jose and we went to visit him there a few times.

Cool tune! Got a request for Treat Her Like A Lady by Corneilus Brothers And Sister Rose (1971) and Gimme Gimme Good Lovin’ by Crazy Elephant (1969)! ✌️

There'a also a version of this song by Tom Clay-while the song is in the background instrumentally-he interviews kids on their definitions on certain words and topics that was/is relevant to the world in 1970 and today.

I am glad you found Burt Bacharach and Hal David: Music, Lyrics. This video may be a compilation of Mr Bacharach singing HIS song over the years. He normally didn't sing on tv, but I feel he expresses his music very well. This video is not from his YT channel, btw. Please check out Burt Bacharach's YT channel: "The Great Divide". ❤

Dionne Warwick sang the song too. She’s Burt’s wife, if I remember correctly. He’s a great piano player.

I guess that because no one else has said it, this is one of the greatest duets of all time. Yes, Dionne and Burt were fantastic, but I personally prefer Burt and Elvis. That second stanza, where you hear the guitar, is Elvis Costello as well as all those more aggressive vocals. Elvis is also one of the great singer/songwriters of all time. Credit where credit is due.

Try Dionne Warwicks version of this song, or Jackie DeShannon
