The Strangest Story Ever Told: The Legend of Thomas Bay Alaska

"The Strangest Story Ever Told" centers on a haunting encounter in Thomas Bay, Alaska, known as the Devil's Country. The story begins with a man named Harry Colp, who, while prospecting for gold in the early 1900s, stumbled upon an abandoned campsite. The camp appeared to have been left in a hurry, with moldy provisions and personal items untouched for weeks, suggesting that something sinister had occurred. Despite the eerie atmosphere, Colp continued his exploration but was plagued by an overwhelming sense of dread.

Years later, Colp shared his story with others, leading to a series of ill-fated expeditions into the same area. Each time, the explorers reported strange occurrences: mysterious tracks, the disappearance of animals, and an oppressive sense of fear. One trapper even claimed to have encountered bizarre, unidentifiable tracks that seemed to belong to a creature that could walk on both two and four legs. The trapper himself later vanished without a trace, adding another layer of mystery to the already chilling tale.

The legend of Thomas Bay, with its strange disappearances and eerie happenings, remains one of Alaska's most unsettling mysteries, leaving those who hear it questioning what might truly lie hidden in the wilderness.

I live in Petersburg, about 15 miles by boat from Thomas bay. Its my favorite place to go moose and deer hunting. It truly is a beautiful place, as is all of southeast Alaska. I moved here in 1973 and used to take it for granted. Now older, i realize just how blessed I am to be here and have raised my children here, away from the hectic kaos of the outside world.

Idk about this place and stories but I DO know I was pleasantly surprised. I saw radio and i figured I wouldn't be staying. I don't care for podcast types mostly because they have no scenery etc. THIS was beautiful! Interesting and creepy stories....contrasted with glorious drone and other photos and clips. Excellent. Thank you VERY much. I am subbing if I haven't already. Have a lovely weekend. Love the accent too🙏🏼👻🐾🏞️🪻

At about 23:25 the AI version of a pre-aneurysm becomes the AI version of an aneurysm.

I once knew a territorial assayer of Alaska. He told me of a large tree, surrounded by a vast green impenetrable forest tuft, struck by lightning and up rooted, fallen over. The earth was exposed and he saw chunks of quartz heavily ribboned with gold. It was near the coast, 1/2 day by boat north of Ketchikan.

May be AI voice. I don't know and I don't care. It's completely impossible to find enough good readers to read all these books, as well as costly. I get this for free and I'm very grateful. Thank you. I hope your channel does well for you. It's not easy putting up and managing a YT channel. ♥️

I found it entertaining. Some audio was either distorted or done in a language I did not understand. Great story !! Thanks.

Back in 1982 I saw 3 Kushtaka walking together at Blind Slough in Petersburg. Also saw some interesting tracks in the snow high up on a mountain past the city dump.

the first of the events depicted reputedly happened around 1900 - but the book wasn't published until 1953 - by author Henry Colp's daughter Virginia - whose mother found the manuscript shortly after her husband died - - the daughter lived in Petersburg - a town near Wrangell - where the Colp narration begins - (i was born & raised in Wrangell but haven't been there in decades)

not mentioned in the narrative - the creatures are presumably Kóoshdaa Káa (KOOSH - ta- kaw) - the tlingit (klin - kit) indians' resident big-bad-wolf - my full-blooded tingit grandmother would try to scare us by saying the Kóoshdaa Káa would get us if we did something bad - we were never scared - and it never caught us

this story is passable horror - written by an amateur - the lack of polish makes it seem more - well - authentic? - horror is measured by how much fun the terror was
