I swear they could make a whole anime just about the events that happened before the anime started.

What if Zunesha wasn't sentenced to walk the ocean, but the elephant (and original joyboy) saw Imu's power, so it just walks endlessly so Zou doesnt get obliterated like LuLusia and Joyboy put fisman island right under Maryjois for the same reason.

While working as an assistant to Nobuhiro Watsuki, Oda began writing One Piece in 1996. It started as two one-shot stories entitled Romance Dawn—which would later be used as the title for One Piece's first chapter and volume.

It amazes me how perfectly fleshed out the story is considering he is doing it as he goes. Some people take a decade or 2 to make a masterpiece before they put it on paper. Oda is working 5 or 6 days a week on writing and artwork and has the time to research history and incorporate it into it as well. There are so many parallels between OP and actual history that you'd think he was a historical scholar before he even started OP. It is without a doubt the most epic story of my time.

I still can't imagine such a highly advanced civilisation could have been overpowered by the Kingdoms. I rather think it was a internal fight so devastating that the Kingdoms more or less just took what's left. Or they blackmailed the rulers who really had moral. If the crazy islands with different timeliness and weathers are not just there unexplained I think it's the result of out of control (or masterly controlled) devil fruits. Maybe as they first appeared or it's the power of the tree they originally came from.

Remember the Long Ring Long island, the stretched island and everything in it, etc. What if that was an after effect of Gomu Gomu (now Nika obviously) awakening? The same thing that happened in the aftermath of Punk Hazard. Gear 5 can literally do rubberize and stretch things out.

Joyboy, I wonder what kind of person he was. No like I literally want to know a lot more about him.
It's truly fascinating how the past of this story is so immensely big and important.
The lore, the characters, the civilizations, an anime that shows us what happened before the start of the story sounds amazing!!

I would believe that the events of the void century happened very quickly, much like Luffy's journey only taking place over a few years. At this time the world government went around destroying all documentation of the events with the poneglyphs being the only exception, but since there were so many eye-witnesses they couldn't reliably destroy all knowledge of the event. So they only allowed writing 100 years after the events took place, ensuring that all the original witnesses could not write the truth, and that only oral tradition like Bink's Sake survived. I think this might have even been foreshadowed with Ace's Birth. Where Rouge had to wait an entire year to give birth to avoid him being killed. The witnesses to Joy Boy had to find a way to make their tale last through an entire century of censorship.

I would love to know the story between Joyboy and Imu, the story of Rocks D. Xerbec and the story of Gol D. Roger, those are the stories I really want to know, and let's all agree that we would love for Oda to give us a real live devil fruit encyclopedia.

Once OP ends, I hope they do the opposite of Naruto and actually make a OP prequel series. It would be much funner and interesting to watch.

When One Piece is finally ends, it should have a prequel that depicts the adventures of Gol D. Roger.

What are some of the crazy theories of One Piece that might be true?
The One Piece treasure is on the moon! Luffy’s adventure will not end at Raftel as we all thought it would but actually in outer space!

Yes, it’s absurd. It’s outright ridiculous, but hear me out guys.

The theory perfectly ties in all the big mysteries we have so far such as what the poneglyphs point to, what is the Void Century, what is the secret agenda of the World Government, who are the Celestial Dragons, what is the Will of D., and what is this ancient civilization that Robin found at Shandora.

The moon plays a pivotal role in this theory and it all starts at the Skypiea arc. Yes, the most boring and tedious arc of One Piece where nothing of much significance happens. I think Oda purposely made it boring so that readers of the manga skip over some of the more meticulously hidden details of the story’s endgame.

There, Robin comes across the city of Shandora where she found clues of an ancient civilization that “fell”. Now “fell” can have multiple connotations. It can mean that the civilization was wiped out by something or it can literally mean it fell from the sky. In this case, both meanings can be true.

What if they fell from the moon?

Now in order to back up this absurd claim I am making, we need to fast forward to the Thriller Bark arc, specifically looking at the cover art story -Eneru’s Great Space Mission.

This is the story of how Eneru flew up to the moon on a hot air balloon because why not? There we get to see some lore about an ancient race of beings called ‘Mooninites’. This confirms the clause that there was life on the moon thousand years from now.

Hmm why do these hairstyles look so familiar?

It’s because we have seen them at different points of Luffy’s adventure. The characters in the above image from the left are Gedatsu (from Eneru’s hometown of Bilka), Wyper (from Shandora), and Conis (from Skypiea).

This essentially proves that people from the moon descended to the One Piece Earth and started living among the people.

But why?

It is because their home on the moon was attacked by space pirates!

Why you ask? Because these people were technologically advanced and were the first ones to build the 2 ancient weapons of mass destruction, namely,  Pluton and Uranus. It makes sense that they are named after planets thus referring to their interstellar origin.

These space pirates followed them to Earth and wiped out these beings from the moon. Every trace of them was erased and only few were able to escape. The only thing they couldn’t destroy were the poneglyphs because they were made with some kind of indestructible material. As Robin said, these stones contain the true history of what happened in the Void Century.

The reason why it’s called the Void Century is because it’s a period of 100 years which has got no trace of history attached with it. Theorists suggest that it is because the space pirates wanted to hide the fact that they had just eliminated a whole civilization from the world so they wiped everyone’s memory clean.

But all this happened thousands of years back. What happened to the space pirates now? Their descendants grew up to be what we call today as the Celestial Dragons!

*GASP*

It all makes sense now doesn’t it? Why they are the highest form of authority in the World Government. Why they don’t think twice to eliminate anybody who knows the true history of this world. Why they hold so much power over everyone.

If that doesn’t convince you, think about their clothing. They always wear a white suit with a glass helmet over their heads.

Kind of like an astronaut.

Initially, Oda made us think that they are wearing helmets because they are too snotty and superior to “breathe the same air as us lowly peasants”. What if it’s literally a reference to the fact that they came from outer space? Doesn’t seem too much of a stretch.

Anyways, now that they rule the World Government which rules the world, they must absolutely never let anyone speak of the atrocities they committed during the Void Century and thus they classified the poneglyphs as “dangerous artifacts” and people in possession of those are hunted by the World Government.

This is their secret agenda: to avoid the atrocities committed by the Celestial Dragons from leaking out to the world.

This is why I think the final war that Oda is foreshadowing will be against the World Government. But who will raise up to the challenge?

This is where the Will of D., the final piece to the puzzle comes in.

If you look at the letter “D” it looks like half of a moon. We also know that there are very few people with D’s in their name, they being - Luffy’s lineage, Blackbeard, and Trafalgar Law.

Theorists suggest that they are the children that were born when the moon people came to Earth and procreated with people from the Earth thus their children would have half the genes from the moon parent and half from their Earthly parent. So the “D” in their name signifies the same thing!

Luffy could very well be a half-descendant of the moon people! It’s crazy isn’t it?

This theory started gaining traction when Oda printed this cover of Luffy with wings which could be a possible reference to the ‘Mooninites”.

It makes sense from a story point of view that the descendants of the moon people are taking revenge against the descendants of the space pirates thousands of years after their initial defeat. That would make for some epic story telling.

Raftel will probably be where the true history of the Void Century is finally revealed and Luffy and crew will go up to the moon and find One Piece. I have no idea what it might be but I think it will help in destroying the Celestial Dragons once and for all and bring peace to the world.

This is what Luffy meant when he said that he wanted to be Pirate King and that he wanted to be the freest man in the world. Also, it helps that scientifically, the moon controls the tides so Luffy conquering the moon would metaphorically mean that he is the ruler of the seas…

Wew that’s a lot of text I should probably write a TL;DR.

The ancient civilization that Robin found at Shandora actually fell down from the moon. The moon people were chased out of their home by space pirates thousands of years ago because they had access to great wealth and technology. They migrated to Earth but the space pirates followed them and wiped them out completely. Only few survived and the poneglyphs.

Space pirates eliminated all trace of their existence and wiped the memory of those who witnessed their atrocities. This is called the Void Century. The space pirates take over the World Government and start ruling the world. Their descendants are currently known as the infamous Celestial Dragons.

Luffy and those with D. as their middle initial are actually half-descendants of the moon people. They are the chosen people who will destroy the current, corrupt World Government and the Celestial Dragons. This is the Will of D. The One Piece which is at the moon will help them do so thus making the world a freer place.

You forgot to add Roger's history (and maybe some of Rocks not sure) because Roger started his crew long before fighting Rocks. And I think there are more time-line points for Roger Pirates in Road to Laughtale

Basically what Oda has been doing so far:
Chapter 1057: you thought Yamato will join? think again
Chapter 1058: you thought Buggy is the one who created cross guild? think again
Chapter 1059: you thought Blackbeard will be going after sabo? think again
Chapter 1060: you thought Luffy's dream was to become the pirate king? think again
Chapter 1061: you thought Vegapunk is an old man? think again

I think great authors consider the past history of the worlds they create. Avatar, Naruto, One Piece, etc all have history that impacts the story line so much. Any aspiring author does well to study this.

In the cover story of The Straw Hat Grand Fleet, there was a mention by the rulers of the longarm and longleg tribes that a war started to happen between the two 1000 years ago.
