15 Mile Cattle Drive Through the Black Hills

Our ranch is located in the Northern Black Hills on the South Dakota/ Wyoming border where my family settled and started ranching in 1883.

I work alongside my parents, Jeff and Jodi, our ranch hand, Jaques, and my wife, Damaris who also works as a nurse in town. We have friends and family who come along very frequently as well!

We run a cow/calf operation where we summer our cattle on the Black Hills National Forest and winter them in the foothills of the Black Hills. We also have a backgrounding feedlot, and grow alfalfa and grass hay.

Carson you can tell your Father has held a few kids and loves his grandkids. Beautiful scenery and nice looking group of cattle. Trump seems like a hard working horse. Glad Big D is well. Hope Damaris is doing well and you all stay safe and healthy.

Well, I have to tell you that you are a lucky guy Carson. The scenery is fantastic. I have travelled to a lot of countries and I have never seen more scenery beautiful than this. Remember, every day when you look outside how lucky you are.

This is what I had dreams of doing when I was a much younger man. I have never owned a horse but I had a limited exposure to being around horses back in the 1960s.
I always wanted to be a “working cowboy” and not like the Hollywood movie stars on television.
Although this is real work, I have always wanted to do this for a living.
Thanks for sharing your video. You make an old man feel like a kid again.🙏

Nothing better than seeing a new baby on the cattle drive. Your dad holding the baby was adorable. Beautiful country. I'm jealous. We were 98° yesterday so seeing you guys bundle up was wild. You are doing great with the drone. Awesome video Carson.

Love to listen to those cows making sure their babies are keeping up. There’s an old saying that I think applies to moving cattle as much as it does anything else. Slow is smooth and smooth is fast.

Carson another great video, there is something magic watching cattle moving through that beautiful countryside. Your Dad is a quite tough bloke but give him grandkids to hold and he melts. What a great family event, a lot of riding to get the cattle together. Trump surely likes a few solids in his water. Thanks again from Down Under.

Congrats on another great episode, Carson. Not only is your camera work and composition getting to be professional, your editing is wonderful-I really admire the genuine flavor and essence you portray. I loved to see your dad as the tender grandpa while in his natural setting and surrounded by friends and family; I'm sure many guys would have been talking with your helpers instead of cuddling babies and toddlers. You are a lucky guy.

Grew up in Deadwood, graduated from there, spent a lot of time in Spearfish Canyon hunting, met and married my wife in Lead/Deadwood. One of our family friends, with whom we hunted, lived in Hanna and were named Sleep (Bill and Millie). Many great memories.
