Andy Gullahorn - That Guy

Everyone has one or two artists who have profoundly shaped their life—whether it’s an album you played on repeat with friends or a song that resonated during a pivotal moment. For me, that artist is Andy Gullahorn. I’ve been listening to his music since 2006, and his ability to craft poignant songs without pretense has always stood out to me.

If you don’t know the songwriting of Andy Gullahorn, let me put this in perspective for you. Getting to record Andy Gullahorn to me, would be like my mom teaching High School Biology to John Denver. It would be like my electrician friend Joe installing a new 200-amp subpanel at Taylor Swift’s house. Insert your favorite songwriter and line of work to apply this analogy to yourself.

One Saturday morning, after Andy had played a sold-out show at "The Fe," David, the owner of the venue and proprietor of the San Benave Concert Series, kindly let us stay behind to film some videos. "That Guy" was actually the third song we recorded that day. If you enjoy it, stay tuned for more from Andy in the future. And if you don’t, feel free to subscribe to the channel anyway.

One of my absolute favorite Andy songs. So so so so good. And so accurate to the Creator I adore. Thank you for this version. It’s absolutely gorgeous.

I've lived in Nashville my whole life (that's a long time 🙂) and I've realized there is just no way to know all the great singer songwriters. I was pointed to an Andy Gullarhorn song a few months ago in a sub stack by Belmont U. professor, David Dark. (Even Hell is not a God Forsaken Place). I found the song to be quite powerful. Just a few weeks ago (thank you YouTube algorithms) I clicked on Andy's "Happy Hour Episode 78" with singer songwriter David Cox. In the beginning of the show Andy plays a song with as powerful a line I'd ever heard, so I decided I needed to dive deeper. I listened to his whole catalogue over a few short days and hit "favorite" on the ones I thought were particularly special. I'm guessing I listened to 80 or 90 songs. I marked about 50 of them as "special." Wow! You are exactly right to claim Andy Gullahorn as a life-shaping artist. Thanks for this fine quality recording of this extraordinary song.

So grateful the space was good for y’all. We can’t wait to hear how this turned out. We suspect it’ll be spectacular.

Wow great, difficult song. Beautiful reverb in that space, too!

If there are more talented writers/performers in Nashville I want to know who they are. Few people have as many songs that move me. Right up there with contemporary songwriting greats like Patti Griffin and Ray LaMontagne. And, he is a wicked frisbee golfer as well.
