Thanks for your observations. I bought my R8 used twenty years ago, and it's been absolutely rock solid. It shares antennas with an RSPdx, SDRIQ, R390A, Kenwood R-2000, and a host of old Hammarlunds. It is right at the top in terms of sensitivity and selectivity. The ergonomics are enjoyable for me, I have no problem with the carousel arrangement. The only gripe I have about the rig is the clock. It runs horribly slow, which seems odd, considering how well it does everything else. Thanks again.

These are absolutely fantastic radios. Congratulations on having owned one for so long.

Mine slowly became deafer and deafer over time. Someday I'll have to send it in to get serviced/aligned. The only thing holding me back is that the cost to get it serviced would be about the same as what you'd pay for a used one.

Sweet! That tuning dial is awesome. I have an R8B and it wont move unless your finger is moving it, and stops as soon as you let go. Thanks for sharing! I have some older radio vids on my channel that you might enjoy. Thanks again!

Very nice presentation. I too have an r8 but it suffers from low audio. I gather that it needs to have a couple caps replaced but trying to find someone to the the work is near impossible. I too also have an icom r8600 but I miss that Drake. Good luck with your r8 and your listening. BTW how do you tell when it was manufactured?
