I usually never leave comments but I have been living in Berlin for several months now and have a close friend whose relatives took part in operation Valkyrie as part of the resistance.

The reason the German population is so opposed to any display of the swastika is not because they are trying to forget their history, but rather due to the continued presence of neo-Nazis. They are a minority but they do still exist and putting any fuel to their fire is something Germany stands very strong against. Again, they are a minority, but however small the possibility for history to repeat itself, the possibility is never zero and that is something to keep in mind.

That is why it remains illegal.
