The very simple rule is that no one should EVER respond to any financial claim or come-on sent via phone, e-mail or text message. PERIOD - regardless of whom/what they claim to be. If you have a concern regarding your accounts, contact the financial institution directly.

Yes, China's banks have been doing this and have always asked elders to be accompanied by relatives if wiring large amounts to out of the country account

Anyone can become a victim of fraud. Even those that judge the victims for their “stupidity”. It comes in many forms and becoming hard to keep up with.

While I have sympathy for this woman, it is not the bank's responsibility to gate and question people about what they plan to do with their money.

National banks suck anyways. They have all these random fees, monthly fees, whatever Jesse, use your own money or store your money. There are plenty of California based banks and credit unions that have way more better benefits.
