Faceoff of the Bombers: B-24 vs. B-17?

On the anniversary of the B-24 LIberator's first flight, which took place on December 29, 1939, we are putting the bomber up for a faceoff with the B-17! Yep that's because it's #FaceoffFriday. Which one do you like more?

Both are awesome aircraft but for me the B17 is like an icon of WW2 bomber aircraft..

I’m very partial to the B-17, since my grandpa flew them, but they also look much cooler to me and could take quite the beating. Iconic. Got to fly in one. Both are legends

The B-24 had a reputation as an aircrew killer, it was faster and had a higher payload yes but the human cost was substantially more than the B-17. The B-17 was an absolute tank of an aircraft

Yeah I’ve seen photos of b 17s flying home with whole elevators missing and chunks taken out of the side of the cabin. Can’t say the same for b 24s

B-24 is my favorite but the B-17 is just more majestic and iconic.

B-24 could take more damage but less range. I’d take the B-17. I’ve actually seen battle damage on the B-17 Swamp Ghost . The Japanese Zeroes had a hard time bringing down a heavily armed B-17.

I love the look of the B-24. The B-24 was capable of flying higher, faster and carry more ordinance. B-17 was much more durable, survivable, efficient, stable and comfortable. Its logistics vs crew

b-17 was a pre-war design, after combat experiences the b-24 was designed too be the perfect heavy bomber which is why there really isn’t a comparison between the bombers capabilities

The b24 is a tough aircraft longer range faster but harder to fly and the b17 just looks better bring in that iconic ww2 feel to the table so I say equal
