It was wonderful to see Fil’s smile and enthusiasm during this video. Janis Joplin was incredible and it’s heartwarming to see that she is living on and still impressing new generations. It’s a shame that she didn’t seem to see how beautiful, talented and loved she was. Thank you, Fil, for sharing your professional expertise and enthusiasm while analyzing Janis’ and the band’s performance.

There has been a lot said about Janis and her drug addiction and drinking, but having read her last will, she was incredibly loving to her family. She left a sizeable portion to her parents but her sister and brother would never have had to worry about anything because in her will, she gave her sister a lot of money because the sister was already over 18 at the time, but her brother was not only to have a trust fund, but he could go to any university of his choice fully paid for, even post-doctorate.

It is evident her family loved her very much and she loved them. And because her estate was formed then, whatever proceeds gained since her death became part of her estate. Even in death she took care of them. Since reading this, I have so much respect for her.

Saw Joplin live at Shea Stadium Peace Festival in ‘70…she was an unscheduled guest…showed up with Johnny Winter and the two ran out together to jam…INCREDIBLE.

I'm 74 and in 1970 I saw Janis perform in the "Festival Express" in Toronto. I somehow made my way backstage
(it was an outdoor concert) and I saw Janis Joplin sitting off in a corner crying uncontrollably. I did not approach her.
Affected me greatly. This was before she went on stage and killed it.

My favorite part of your analytical videos is the pure joy on your face while you're listening. Plus I learn sooo much.

She certainly was unique and one of a kind. Her voice never thinned out…it was more than sad to lose such talent! Thanks for sharing your talent along with Janis. First time watching anyone analyze her… perfect. ❤

Everyone loved her. The female singers of today owe Janis a big thank you for what she did for music. She didn't have an easy life but she made something great for herself. Thank you, Janis, for being yourself. Thanks, Fil, for covering Janis. Take care.

Janis was a phenomenal performer and people discount how good of a singer she was. She rarely sang in her "normal" voice because she loved the blues so much.

She was a class act and generous towards her fans.

I was 13 when I first heard this song! I'm now 67...she's forever young and her music never grows old❤

Saw her many times in Austin Texas in 1963 -64 when she was at the University of Texas. She was playing at Kenneth Threadgill's place. IT was a converted old gas station. When she sober she was brilliant, but many time she was drunk. I have seen many wonderful performers in my 77 years but I have to put her in my top 10. Gone to soon

Janis, affectionately known as ‘Pearl’ was a force of nature. Yes, a sad life but we are blessed to have had her! ‘Sir Fil’, you’re right, you would never have people coming on stage to dance with her and great word ‘freeform’ regarding her pitch.
Thanks so much my friend-ROCK ON!!🤘🎶 6:43

Janis, there will never be another, broke the mold when she started singing. My brother mainly influenced me on liking most all kinds of music, being he could sing, play some, write, and also, I had to listen, which he loved Mama Cass and Janis. I knew a few other people liking country mostly and Janis. I was told she was real singing on stage not like others. Sad part being a good part I read this was when Janis truly enjoyed life and did not feel alone being on stage. Rest of the time, even with people around like parties, she felt alone. The fans were her friends. Sad, she spent so much time feeling this. At times I can understand having the same feeling. Thanks, Fil, for showing this. I had not seen this clip of Janis having a great time on stage and showing how good her voice was with notes.

Janis, an artist, entertainer, trail blazer extraordinaire. We certainly were lucky to have had her. I wish she could have stayed with us longer and basked in the glory of her achievements. It's very unfortunate that she did not get the opportunity to see the success of Me and Bobby McGee. A timeless classic, thank you Janis for everything.

Thanks Fil. Her band refused to sign a film release for a Documentary on Saturday at the Monterey Pop Festival in 67. She convinced them to do some songs on Sunday so they could be filmed. That performance blew them up and they signed with Coumbia Records in a few months.
