2 + 5 × (8 - 5). Use order of operations(PEMDAS). Parentheses, Exponents, Multiply/divide(in left to right), Add/Subtract(in left to right). 8 - 5 = 3. 3 × 5 = 15. 15 + 2 = 17. If you got 21, you're completely incorrect. Like this if you want people to see their errors

With humans only living 76 years on average that means in your entire life you’d get 45.600 n TOTAL

This means :
Option A : 1.000.000 in total
Option B : 45.600 in total

Okay let's do order of operations!

Parentheses first so 2 + 5(8 - 5)

8 - 5 = 3

So now it looks like this 2 + 5(3)

Due to the order of operations we must always do multiplication before we can do addition unless there are parentheses.

5(3) is the same as 5 × 3

5 × 3 = 15

Now we can do addition 2 + 15 is as you can guess 17!

You can always check with your calculator for more certainty.

Here is a different way to do it if you are still a bit confused, this way is called a Foil

2 + 5(8 - 5)

Let's foil!

5 × 8 = 40

5 × 5 = 25

Now let's put the equation back together

2 + (40 - 25)

We need to do the parentheses first so

40 - 25 = 15

2 + 15 = 17
