Yeah nothing says stand up to peer pressure like an authority figure forcing a room full of kids to sign a pledge they don't even understand lol

Look at the way Marty is staring at Jonah right before the principle asks him to step outside. Head tilted to the side, captivated by every word and almost in awe. Nothing but pure pride in his son.

Jonah is so damn smart just like his father. Jonah has so much passion on what he knows about. He's done his research.

He overpowered the teacher.

I'm with him. Before you sign a contract, you have to think about it.

I am a middle school teacher, and students like Jonah make my work worthwhile. Sure, we all want kids to stay healthy and make good decisions for themselves. But, I speak from experience when I say that Jonah's response is exactly what I look for in a student: fact/evidence based claims, clear passion for the subject, and a calm demeanor that doesn't reduce to shouting over someone or name-calling. He's a role model for engagement, and I would have asked him to write me a research paper or present his argument to the whole class with a PowerPoint presentation filled with visual aids. Lastly, I would never ask my students to sign anything that required them to think unrealistically about the world they live in and the pressures they'll face. That poor teacher was probably asked to have all those kids sign that slip of paper, and she was completely unprepared by her administration to handle it. She needs mentorship; Jonah clearly needs a positive and productive outlet for his intelligence and ambition. Onto opening an offshore bank account and money laundering! :)

1:58 love how the kid in the background is looking at him like "Well he has a point maybe I shouldn't sign the paper." and learned more from Jonah than the teacher about logic and thinking.

Missed the part where he says "This isn't an intellectual exercise". He may as well be saying "We don't really want our students to really think about things or teach them things that maybe beneficial to them later in life. We just want them smart enough to hold a job."

This kid is my hero. Took a complicated situation and broke it down in logic. It's not easy to hear that, yes, economy has many fingers. Including drugs.

It is amazing watching Jonah turn into his father right before our eyes. Perhaps an ever colder version of him.

Wendy's reaction to Marty chiming in at the end is super overlooked. I love it

I would love to argue with a teacher in this way but I’m just not smart enough to be perfectly honest
