Check out the Stitch People!!! It's a book that teaches you how to cross stitch portraits, and there are many beautiful customizations! They also have a book to teach you how to embroider an image of your own house!

Great video! I loved the fire screen - it reminds me so much of my grandmother's stitching! I have started watching some of the 'slow stitch' videos - some of that work is extraordinary! I think sometimes fire screens were also used from spring to fall - once the fireplace was not in use - used to cover the 'hole' of the fire place.

Maximum Cross Stitch has the Friendship Sampler. The large version gives you different people and motifs you can add. Sam, I love your finishing of your smalls exchange. I am thinking for finishing my small for Stitch North October in a similar fashion.

A book that might be useful in charting your own sampler is Picture it in Cross Stitch by Jo Verso. I have seen it in loads of Charity Shops here in the UK. It was printed in the late 80’s.

I store my silks in floss away bags. All of it, even my spools, but especially Soie D'Alger.
I wonder how bad you have to play thread chicken to be using the very tip of thread that you've licked?

Hex project reminds me of yo-yo Christmas tree skirt I hand stitched, took forever, but wonderful when finished.

So I just found you and you ladies are so fabulous. Usually I won’t watch a video for an hour or I’ll fast forward through it but I watched every single second of this. You just provide so much excitement and different information! I will be processing this stitchy goodness for a while. Have subscribed and can’t wait to watch part 2.

So glad to see you both together! The bees are amazing - can’t wait to see the reveal of your finished projects. That chart didn’t interest me until I saw how beautiful they look when you stitched them!

Flush storage for the silk I cut it all to my short lengths. I take two links of each color, put them on their own individual floss tag. So I can keep that with me when I’m stitching, and I can get at the thread I need easily. Then the rest I put in plus away bags you can put them on a ring. I have a little box that they fit in. . We have to keep in mind that I am a monogamous teacher, so if I had multiple projects, I’d probably just use the floss away bags.

Yes indeed Arica…I had to purchase a stand for straight wound thread because my Jenome machine has the thread on the side that works perfectly for Aurafil thread but other threads have a jerky motion in the feed. You will love Joan Elliot patterns Sarah…my sister-in-laws is on her 4th lady and they are outstanding. Lots of fun ladies…get healthy. So…I have envisioned charting a willow tree by a stream and on each of the willows would be a name of each person in the family with higher darker names the older generation and working down to lighter younger generations. Sam, we need to figure out a family sampler for sure. I can’t wait to get the pictures of your swaps…they are fabulous. 🦉🧵🪡🔆🇨🇦

Thanks for showing us your projects ladies. Arica I have not tried EPP because it doesn't really appeal to me. Very interesting information about the thread though.

I think you want the Ultimate Sampler Motifs Sourcebook by Brenda Keyes.

I run my thread across a brick of beeswax = no knots ever.

The beading thread looks very similar to nymo size D beading thread.
