YES!!! Rats really are awesome pets! We've had rats since my boys were quite small. We presently have two fancy female sisters that are polar opposite personalities, just like my kids. It's so funny.
For a creature so small to have a personality larger than life, that can learn tricks and tasks shocking quick, but loves you unconditionally is really just magical.
Major KUDOS to this young lady and her labour of love and to @GeoBeats Animals for shining the spotlight on her!

I never thought of rats as pets until my niece dropped two older ladies off to me she'd got from her friend.
They really are awesome little creatures, incredibly smart, obsessed with food, very funny and loving. I've had a number over the years and each had a unique personality. One boy, Stripe loved tea and coffee and every time I sat down with a brew he'd be straight over to me.
I'd recommend them to anyone, they make such great pets, the only downside is their short lifespan.

If I got a rat, I would either name it Mouse (to confuse people), or Alexander Aloysius Alastair, and make people say the whole name and not shorten it. And then I would let them climb on my shoulders and hair and hoodie and just be the kid who has rats

This is so incredible. But i'm wondering, how do you control the birth rate, if they are all free roamed, or free roaming? or is it ok for them to just get pregnant because they get adopted? i hope they go to good homes...

There are no pests in this world. It is through careless mishandling, lack of respect, and/or ignorance of the world around us that lead to things like overpopulation, destruction, and other issues with animals that we have to deal with. I try not to kill even flies, gnats, or spiders any more. If I can relocate them to another location I try. Or knowing they may have just a few days, month or season to be around I let them be and let nature take its course. And so far, I have not had to deal with an infestation anywhere I lived.
