What's the deal with this package manager?

Let’s talk about pkgx today. It’s an interesting package manager for running anything on your machine. But is this abstraction actually worth it? we talk about pkgx, what it is, and why it’s interesting. but also, why I may not LOVE it.

What about mise? I think is the most natural (and with better performance) replacement for asdf. And it’s written in rust btw 😊

I'm also using asdf for anything other than node, and it never caused me any trouble. For node, I use volta, which is really great as well! PKGX looks really interesting, but I guess it doesn't offer anything that I'm missing in my current setup.

Not to be the nix guy, but yeah just use nix. Same concept, but recipes you can actually import and tweak with a true language. We already learned yml was a mistake with the advent of helm file madness lol.

The logo in the thumbnail and the name of the tool made me assume it was a tool developed by Microsoft!

(because the logo looked like Visual Studio logo and that uses VSIX files for installing extensions)

I am not entirely sold on the need to have ANOTHER package manager but the argument I'd make is too long for a YouTube comment. Regardless, pkgx, as far as package managers go, looks interesting. Thanks, nerd
