Sono partenopeo, eppure come non apprezzare questa melodia, che abbraccia tre dati culturali di assoluto spessore ed interesse: la maestria trascinante ed affascinante di coloro che suonano, un testo struggente ed emozionante e la splendida lingua grika, che collega l'antichità classica alla moderna identità salentina. Troppo spesso in Italia, ed anche nel sud, campanilismi ed antagonismi impediscono di apprezzare del tutto il nostro vastissimo patrimonio culturale! Viva il Salento!

Puglia, a region of southern Italy also known as Apulia, is my land, a different land..with a Italian MOther and a Greek father, so they used to say the old folks here!!
Our coast has always been a new home for refugees and other voyagers from the Balkans but nobody and i want to stress this point...NOBODY..was dearest to our hearts like the greeks..marvellous folks..that respected us, mixed peacefully with us, and became part of us SAlento th bottom part of Apulia testifies this

...also i remember when in Corfu' (Kerkyra) in 1992 we went to a Taverna /Bouzouki owned by the funniest and alive person i ever met.His name was Ioannis and along with the traditional dancers he started some sirtaki he tried to call some germans to dance along but no one went...then he went to a table of dutch people from holland, but they where dead..then he noticed me my brother and our girlfriends that were clapping and enjoyng the music all the way so he invited me as representant of italy

Always be proud of what you are, your heritage and your bonds to greeks and never let anyone take it away from you.Everytime l listen to some music of your place, l have that nostalgic sorrowful feeling as if a missing brother is calling me.An invitation to a land so familiar as my own birth place. ...He spoke a little italian a we undestood each other.. so when we started to dance he was amazed and laughed a lot becuse without teaching me i could follow all the steps and even pick up the table with my teeth hahah..he was so happy ioannis that he kept the foto of me the table in my mouth and him at the entrance ot the restaurant..Now long time has passed by, , but i never forgot how much fun i had.and how i felt among my own people there!!
I hope one day to go back there and visit him again
