Long Journey Home is the first single off of ME/AND/DAD, Billy Strings' forthcoming record with his dad, Terry Barber.

Reflecting on the project, Strings shares, “As long as I can remember, I wanted to make a record with my dad. I’ve been burning up and down the highways the last 12 years, and as time slips away, you start thinking, ‘I need to make time.’ It’s been a bucket list thing for me, something I’ve been afraid I wouldn’t find the time to do. And that scared me; not doing this record scared me.”

Produced by Strings and Gary Paczosa and recorded at Nashville’s Sound Emporium Studio, the record finds Strings and Barber playing with familiar ease, naturally trading off leads both vocally and on guitar. In addition to Strings and Barber, the album features an all-star band including bassist Mike Bub, mandolinist Ron McCoury, banjo player Rob McCoury and fiddler Michael Cleveland as well as special guest appearances by Jerry Douglas, Jason Carter and Strings’ mother, Debra Barber, who sings on the final track, “I Heard My Mother Weeping.”

My dad always left his ukulele on the back of the couch. One summer in 1962, I taught myself how to play Five Foot Two Eyes of Blue. 63 years later, I still play my guitar everyday. I'm not famous, but it's been a great blessing. Thanks Dad.

I will forever be grateful to Terry Barber for turning his stepson into Billy Strings, my favorite musician of his generation.

Terry Barber should be in the Hall of Fame. He saved a genre in my opinion.

I’ve been a fan of bluegrass since I was a teenager and it wasn’t cool
You didn’t let anyone know or you would be mocked mercilessly for it
This was while I lived in NC
I kept my dark secrets hidden from friends and family - my only allies were a couple of Mike Cross records a set of headphones and a Jewish kid from NY who liked bluegrass as well
Billy Strings opened the closet doors and let some light in and I’m no longer afraid
Bluegrass music has so many phenomenal musicians throughout that it’s hard to have just one favorite
I’ll make an exception for Billy Strings

Just shows how important it is for fathers to help and support their children. Terry was an awesome dad. Now we have Billy, an awesome musician.

It's no wonder Billy turned out to be, in my opinion, the best guitar picker I've ever heard. And I've heard just about every picker for the past 65 years, especially in bluegrass. Look who taught Billy, Terry Barber, and he can absolutely man handle a guitar and knows about every bluegrass song I've ever heard. You're welcome!!

Bluegrass🎶🎶🎶...love Bluegrass. I am 72. I am thrilled to see someone like Billy Strings!!
Traveled many a mile in my life for a good Bluegrass concert and everything that goes with it. The people, the sense of happiness and contentment. Nothing better than the woods, a campfire and some good 🎶🎶...might even discover a John Hartford shufflin'. Yup, makes life good.💗

Billy telling the story of saving his dad's guitar still brings a tear to my eye. It's kind of like when ET dies in the movie; I know he'll be back, but I can't help but get the feels.

One of my all time favorite Bluegrass songs. My Grandpa Goad & me would go to Bluegrass shows when I was little. We saw The Country Gentleman & Bill Monroe. Met Bill Monroe at the Elk Lodge in Galax Virginia. We met him during an intermission. I asked Bill Monroe to play Blue Moon of Kentucky for me & my Grandpa. When he got back on stage he dedicated Blue Moon of Kentucky to my Grandpa & me. My Grandpa was beaming. My Grandpa meant the world to me. He passed away October 13, 1990. 4 months after I graduated high school. I know he's in a better place. But I miss him & my Granny especially this time of year. Autumn in the Blue Ridge Mountains are just Beautiful. Especially Mabry Mill. Thank you Billy Strings for the Most Amazing Music.

When it's so popular to minimize Dad. It's great to see someone still willing to show how meaningful their dad was to their lives. To quote my Pappaw "Being a dad is thankless, tiring, and terrifying; but it's the best job you'll ever have."
