Abraham proved his faith, that is how God knew he had faith, else God had to have had faith in Abraham.
Now we are to have faith in Jesus by complete trust in him by obeying his commandments. The Holy Ghost of Jesus is our guide and witness, Jesus is our judge, and God passes sentence. Faith alone, not ceremonial works, only how we walk in the name of Jesus. Trust in the promises of Jesus; he returned immediately after the destruction of Jerusalem; the dead have risen; the devil is destroyed; and paradise restored in heaven. Works of faith, and trust in his promises, which are why Abraham was the example towards God.
Only a Praeterist can understand the combination of works of faith and trust in the promises of Jesus, because there are things which are to be taken on trust.
To recap:
Justified by faith alone, means ceremonial works have no account with God.
Justification is by God's grace.
Faith is complete trust in Jesus, to believe his promises though unseen.
To follow his commandments, which is to live by faith.
By faith Abraham obeyed God. Not weak faith, but complete trust in his promises.
