Have you ever heard about the so called "Wurst Mic"? Made famous by German music Producer Moses Schneider it's a mic technique that can add quite a bit of character and dirt to your drum sound!

Was the U87 out of phase with the kick? Sounds like a lot of the lows went missing when it was on.

It works well with the "moped set". Add another rack tom or move the ride and it's screwed.
I like to add a same sort of mic, but I put it to the height of a bass drum hoops uppermost part and about a meter away from the kit. Sm57 is fine, but even the most crappiest mic works. The thing is that you cut the highs and lows to your taste compress it quite harshly.

Nice clear video Simon! All your drum sounds are always great, but I thought the Wurst was best 🥹✌🏻
I love what that mic does. I’m using a Lewitt 440 pure for that, it’s my best Wurst mic. 😬👊🏻

i thought it sounded great in its own, but to me they popped out of that mix too much with the wurst on.
