I somehow doubt BMW will get 50% market share of all EVs within ten years, but I’m looking forward to seeing them innovate to strive for it 😁

European reviews: "It's enormous!"
American reviews: "It's just under mid-size"

Great review Rory! 👏 Impressive car but still not sold on its looks. Seems like it's great to drive though!

Rory, you have really found your feet post Top Gear. Your car reviewing skills were grossly under-utilised on the show.
It’s great you don’t sit on the fence and your opinions aren’t forced.
The content and production is superb. Hats off to you and your team.

I drove it earlier this year on "fully charged" event. Owning my ev for 5 years now and driven most of the ev on the market right now, this is my number 1 so far. Excellent driving, it's so good I can't even describe!

Nice review. The one thing I'd like to clear up though is that Rory is stating empty to full charging times for daily charging at home and complaining that it takes too long. That's not how it works. The iX has a WLTP range rating of 380 miles but people won't be driving it 380 miles every day. They come home at night and plug in and the battery is usually topped off in 2-3 hours. On the rare occasion that they do drive it down to nearly empty, there's no issue leaving the next morning with the battery at 70% or 80%, because there will most likely still be more range than needed for the day.
If your daily commute is close to 380 miles, then yeah, maybe it's not the best vehicle for you - and maybe you should also consider moving closer to your work address!

Rory 's review; brilliant, concise and entertaining as ever! Love the car and with a real-world range of around 340 miles, excellent ride, tech, comfort and design, I'm really tempted to go for it. Had a 3-phase supply put in at home and generate plenty of electricity from solar panels, to charge the car each day, so shouldn't need public charging very often. Test driving next week...

I don't understand why everyone hates the looks - I think it looks fantastic.

For $80K expect more so I will wait for the second generation before considering a BMW EV - “car this big with a boot this small” is the deal breaker for me

I saw this same spec at the Seattle International Auto Show and I really like it. I think that BMW nailed it with this iX.

Oh yes nothing screams going green like a tank sized 80 grand SUV. Give it a rest car makers.

The idea you can't charge up overnight is unjustified. In the real world most folks will plug in with at least 10% and charge to 90%. On 7kw this takes 12 hours - easily doable overnight.

Love your iX50 Review Rory. Have watched many and this is the best on line by far. Informative, entertaining, great quality videography and colour accuracy. Useful for information prior to ordering iX50 here in Australia. Have owned many BMW's and this iX50, while entirely new design still has the BMW family appearance - which I really like. (including the 'front'). Better than the other European alternatives which do not distinguish themselves from ICE cars. Dealer still does not have leather and paint samples, but your video is sufficient to be able to confirm an order.

The interior looks like such a wonderful place to be in for all the family. I hope the UK can get more fast charging stations around the country.

Rich folks need to buy these cars, so they pay the development costs for the future affordable electric cars.

I think the hate that BMW gets for the design is valid. Clearing the "You know what? People aren't throwing up in their mouths looking at it" bar isn't something to be proud of. Arguably, other than the 2018 M2, BMW has never made a show stopper, but still. No amount of journalists saying it's growing on them is going to make me like this type of grill. Tbh I don't believe them when they say that either.

It saddens me that the future is a future where people won't be able to work on their cars.

With time I guess we can forgive or get used to the grill. I have to agree, it looks stunning in that colour. Just way beyond my price bracket.
