How to use BMW Parking Assistant

This is a demo of the the BMW Parking Assistant or BMW Park Assist feature which is available in some new BMWs. Thanks to the BMW parking assistant, the driver can maneuver in and out of parking spots with accuracy by having the system control the steering while you still have full control of the accelerator, gears, and brakes.

The BMW Parking Assistant will automatically scan both sides of the road for suitably sized spaces. It measures gaps using ultrasonic sensors mounted in the wing mirrors.

To start the process, simply press and hold the Parking Assistant button. When you take your hands off the steering wheel and release the footbrake, your BMW will take over steering, gears, acceleration and braking. But as always, be alert as you go through this procedure and be ready to take over the steering and brakes.

I love this feature. Not to shit on MERCEDEZ BENZ but their auto park system requires the driver to move the shifter to D or R whenever it stops. With BMW you don’t have to. So much easier. That’s what we pay for in luxury car right? To do less but enjoy the car. Go BMW!

So what in understand is there has to be cars parked for it to function

I haven't used it since I leased the 330e last year. Is it safe to let it control on narrow place or street parking? also, I tried to use backup assistant, but the speed was too fast, therefore I had to hit the brake. Can I control that too?

Does it only work if it finds cars to park beside? I keep trying this in an open parking lot and it doesnt find any spots? Pls advise

I tried it on a ix1 it was shockingly bad at parking. First time tried to reverse into a parked car, second time did ok but close to dumpster, third time was on the white line and had about 3ft of space behind it.

later (2025 x5) models do use lines. i went to an empty lot to test it and it parked perfectly between two line. dont know how that changes if there are cars in the lot since i havent tried that yet

My 2022 BMW X3 Parking Assist does not seem to work. When I press it the monitor turns black with just an image of a car and tire lane!

This is way better than the Volvo. You have to control gas, brake and gear in that. This seems to do it all.
