WB is the only one to blame for this slip, everyone that took part in it was forced due to a contract that said they have to have 4 movies.

If you were around when these movies were coming out you would understand why Morpheus dieing in the Matrix Online is canon to the Matrix story. The Matrix was the first movie franchise whose extra material was all canon. The comics, The AniMatrix, Enter the Matrix that fills in the story for Reloaded, and the Matrix online that continues the story after Revolutions were all canon. It was a big deal to the Waschowskis that all that media be a part of the story, and Morpheus' death was a huge part of Matrix online. I applaud them for remaining true to their canon.
