Reading all of these has put me a bit at ease as I have recently started the pump and on my third site change and am having some serious difficulties with the infusion set. As someone whose had complications with diabetes for awhile, I was in tears tonight feeling like an absolute failure and feeling like I couldn’t sleep until I had this right. It’s not the best for anyone’s mental health feeling like you’re failing. But I’ll keep trying, it’s early days and being transparent with my doctors as well.

I am glad I found this chat about the infusion sets. I'm highly sensitive to insulin variations and new to the Tandem system. Was a Medtronic user through three generations of pumps, but my endocrinologist highly recommended the t slime 2 as "far superior" to anything Medtronic makes. I agree the pump is far superior to anything I've seen from them. However, the set change has so many weakness! For example: having to build your own hypodermic (potential problems with plastic screws), not being able to look into the reservoir to see how successful you have been at draining the air from the reservoir, the injection port on the cartridge having minimal tolerance for error, the packaging of the applicator and tube which is not always easy to open, the spiral paper cover over the adhesive of the applicator (wants to lift), the wrap-around tubing which sometimes dislodges the applicator from its seat in the insertion mechanism, the "release ridges" which have to be squeezed while you drawn back the applicator, the two hollow areas where you press to release the applicator to insert the needle and finally, my personal favorite, the flimsy structure that holds the appllicator and the insertion mechanism. Yes, I wrote "my personal favorite, " actually the insertion system seems to be the worst part of the system. It bends when the applicator is pulled back, making a 90-degree insertion difficult. In fact, I have had five attempts that either failed or may have failed. In the last three weeks I have tried five times to get the applicator to properly insert. Five times my blood glucose shot up hundreds of points after insertion, only to find that the needle had bent and did not penetrate through my skin. Disappointment is an understatement. I will try other Tandem infusion sets before deciding whether to go back to my former pump provider.

The pump is pretty good overall but the infusion sets are clunky and unreliable. I've gotten insulin leaking out of them more times than I can count and have accidentally pulled the set off the inserter several times ruining it. Also, the belt clip doesn't grip very well and has dropped off many times, often pulling the infusion set off with it.

I hope Tandem will eventually switch to the new Mio Advance Infusion Sets! Seeing those sets gives me hope! Boy I would love to have an Infusion that's goes in like the Dexcom G6!

I've had the tslim X2 for 4 months now. The pump itself is great! But I've been having problems with the Tandem infusion sets constantly failing on me. Makes me regret switching from Medtronic sometimes since they have the better sets. Something needs to be done about these crappy infusions!

My son uses the True Steel infusion set by Tandem. It is compatible with the T:Slim X2 pump. It is simple to insert, stays put, & easy to disconnect from. This is his first insulin pump being a type 1 diabetic for more than 12 years. The closed loop system is an incredible advance in the control of BG.

For anyone wondering, like I was, I just followed this tutorial for the Autosoft XC, seeing as how it looks very similar to the Autosoft 90 and I couldnt find a video dedicated to the XC by tandem, and the instructions worked just fine.

That said, Tandem, you guys should probably make a specific video for the XC since it is a separate type of infusion set.

When cocking the inserter, I find that giving the mechanism a slight twist to the right when pulling cocks it more easily.

I have had a t:slim x 2 pump for about 7 weeks now which I was changed to due to Roche stopping production of my Spirit Combo pump. Having now got used to my new pump I have found that the t:slim is a well designed and very easy pump to use. I really wish I could say the same of the AutoSoft 90 cannulas. As others have previously commented, they are very complicated and poorly designed. I do wonder if the designers actually have cause to use them themselves! I so wish I could still use my separately packaged cannula which was applied with a sturdy re-usable applicator, this would surely also be more cost effective and less wasteful in these days of reducing waste? Plus the added bonus of saving wastage and cost due to the numerous failed attempts attempting to apply the AutoSoft cannula.

I have been using Tandem for 5 months with the Dexcom G6. The CGM element is far superior to Medtronic but the ease of use of the infusion set up is very difficult! I have arthritic hands and after 5 months of practice pulling back on the loading set up for insertion it is still immensely difficult for my hands as is disconnecting the infusion tubing from the cannula for bathing. It would also be very helpful to have a wider adhesive dressing around the infusion set to keep it more securely anchored but know that this would make the infusion insertion devise even more difficult to handle. I feel it is a design flaw to be so challenging to use the infusion set up and require additional tape to keep the infusion set secured to the skin.

I found the phrasing used not immediately obvious and had to watch twice. You fill the tubing first before inserting. In the video this is referred to as 'priming the infusion set' at 2:14. I think that's too easy to confuse with filling the cannula.

I've had a pump for about 4-5 years now and have always used the true steel infusion sets and haven't had much issue with them, and the very first time I used the this set I was getting occultation alerts instantly from basal delivery. Is there a way to fix this or am I stuck with a poor design flaw?

how often do you have to change the infusion set?

I've had the T-Slim x2 system for three weeks now, my BSL is wonderfully stable now after 42 years ! One major concern for me is trying to unlock the infusion tube from the cannula when refilling the cartridge: it seems to need 4 hands to do it, my partner has to help me pull it off, as he presses the tiny top button and I need to hold in the two side lugs. I just can't release it by myself. Not easy with two pairs of giant mens" paws fiddling this dainty delicate device. Why does it have to be so difficult ? A nightmare !

i wish there was a manual insertion soft 90 degree cannula ...medtronic and animas both make one

I have been using this infusion set for a few years and have never filled the tubing before inserting the canula into my body. I insert the canula detach the tubing from my body and then attach it to the cartridge after which I fill the tubing. If you use the method shown in the video and something goes wrong with the insertion then you've not only wasted an infusion set but also the insulin it took to fill the tubing.

I’m glad it’s not just me who’s had problems, I’ve had my insertion kink several times and get nervous I’ll run out of infusions too fast, I’ve done it the way the tutorial says but still end up with a leak or kink leading to high blood sugars and sickness

How do you keep from getting tangled up in tubing while sleeping? I’m going on this pump in two weeks and very nervous.
