In order for the cops to search your home, they MUST have a valid search warrant, exigent circumstances (typically an emergency to protect someone or evidence), or the homeowner's permission to search the home. These rights are protected under the fourth amendment.

When we talk about curtilage, which is the area directly outside of your home where you still partake in "at-home activities," you have the same Fourth Amendment rights. This of your patio where you sit outside or where you have your grill. This is usually considered curtilage.

They can not stay on your property at all once you tell them to leave.You tell them once if they dont leave you press charges against them for trespassing.
