What a nice piece.. Thanks Dennis for the great content.. Perhaps JB Weld if you can get it out and clean it good with acetone.. Would be worth a try..

Hi Dennis, I have a Roddymatic by Roddy 902 as well. I like my reel a lot and intend to take it fishing. Mine does not have the white spool with the top holes. The handle on my 902 comes off by turning it clockwise - no pin to remove. It is a shame this reel was broken. I’ve never gotten any Roddy parts on eBay. Maybe our friend David in France could find this gear. He knows more about Roddy reels than anyone I know. I got that Roddy Sprinter 300 reel today and it was in perfect mechanical condition, very smooth, and had already been serviced. I had to work on the bail a little because the handle was hitting it. Right after I removed the bail we had a violent thunderstorm and our power went off for 1 1/2 hours. I finally got it fixed and it is a really nice medium freshwater or inshore saltwater reel. I’d never seen one before. I’ll send you a photo of that 902 Roddymatic reel I have. It’s very nice too. — Chris

I am almost beyond jealous, but glad I don't find so many deals, my entire house and shop would be like Fibber McGee's closet with all the reels

Hey Dennis, that steel handle stud was " staked" onto the pot -metal main gear, not the best way of permanently joining two dissimilar metals, but was used frequently. The silver grease was either Lubri-Plate or as Seymour said Never- Seize, a mineral oil, zinc oxide graphite product, as the comments say, Loc-tite permanent, properly applied, may bring this reel to a second chance, would like to know the outcome if you pursue it further, Thanks.

I'll buy it just to experiment on fixing the gear, pass the word on to Scott

Maybe that gear shaft could be pinned in place or brazed.

I have a similar issue with a Mitchell 306. The shaft is pressed onto the main gear and where it’s pressed on, it is like a hex shape. I imagine that the handle was seized onto the main gear shaft and when someone tried to remove the handle, the pressed in shaft connection to the main gear was weaker than the bound up handle threads and it let go. Maybe someone tried unscrewing the pinned handle while holding the spool and the connection let go in your real as well.

I love the content And quality in detail I started collecting And service Vintage reels this year Really enjoy the knowledge you are passing Down Keep up the good work

On a side note I recently purchased a dam quick finesse real I'm just wondering if it can be switched to a right handed side because the one I watched in the video looks smaller look smaller and i believe it had numbers associated with the model numberIs mind just says dam quick Finesse Has a fish on the side Also wondering if there's any way to tell how old it is

the grey goo looks almost like never seize, which isn't by any means, a grease

A thorough degrease of the spindle and gear then Loctite retaining compound would cure that problem.
