Oldest and Largest Maya Structure + Pyramid Discovered in Mexico | Ancient Architects

Those of you that subscribe to The Lost History Channel and CFApps7865 will have probably seen their respective videos yesterday, that a new, enormous Maya structure has been discovered in southern Mexico.

Using the incredible LiDAR technology, which I have featured in a number of videos on my channel over the years, experts located the discovery at a site called Aguada Fenix near the Guatemalan border, around 850 miles east of Mexico City. Amazingly, it is around 1,500 years older than the amazing pyramids of Tikal, Palenque etc, and instead of stone, it was built with clay and earth and not stone.

It is a colossal rectangular elevated platform, topped by a number of structures including a 13-foot high pyramid. The platform Experts estimate the total volume of the platform and the buildings on top to be around 130 million cubic feet, that's greater than the Great Pyramid of Egypt, and experts think it would have taken 5,000 people more than 6 years of full time work to build.

Why do these talking heads always feel the need to say what the building was used for. They don't know unless they find actually evidence of use, and yet everytime its the same "religion and community functions" Might as well say "we're guessing" before that.

The first thing I noticed was that it looks like a giant stylized bird. I'm surprised you didn't mention this. The wingspan, the tail feathers, the head complete with a pyramidal beak.

funny how every dam site is ceremonial, how is it they rarely find a dam brothel or an abattoir, or even a bloody pub, let alone finding the houses, hell given the number of people this was supposed to have built the dam place, why couldnt the large structure not have just been a a dam long house housing multiple families, a community lodge for sleeping in safety in a large group, funny how stuff like that is always immediately ruled out.

wow, if that's been sitting there hidden all this time, i wonder what else is hidden around the world in rainforest and under the sands of deserts ... they should scan the entire Giza plateau it might reveal a whole load of interesting stuff, great vid . thanks for the heads up Matt .
