2024 Met Gala Red Carpet Fashion Review & Analysis

The 2024 Met Gala took place last night, on Monday, May 6, in New York City at The Metropolitan Museum of Art. It celebrated the Costume Institute’s new exhibition, “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion.” The official dress code was “The Garden of Time.” The exhibit will feature approximately 250 rare items drawn from the Costume Institute’s permanent collection. Spanning over 400 years of fashion history, the pieces will include designs by Schiaparelli, Dior, Givenchy, and more. Some garments that are too fragile to ever be worn again—such as a Charles Frederick Worth ball gown from 1877—will also be displayed via video animation, light projection, AI, CGI, and other forms of sensory stimulation.

This year’s 2024 Met Gala dress code was “The Garden of Time.” Inspired by J.G. Ballard's short story of the same title, written in 1962, it was interpreted in a myriad of ways. We certainly saw many a floral and botanical looks grace the famed Met Gala red carpet.

Today I talk about looks from Tyla (wearing Balmain by Olivier Rousteing), Bad Bunny (wearing Maison Margiela by John Galliano), Gwendoline Christie (wearing Maison Margiela by John Galliano), Zendaya (Wearing Maison Margiela & Givenchy by John Galliano), Jennifer Lopez (wearing Schiaparelli by Daniel Roseberry), Anna Wintour (Wearing Loewe by J.W Anderson), Emma Chamberlain (wearing Jean Paul Gaultier) & Ben Simmons (wearing Thom Browne).

Olivier had a interview yesterday talking about his face sand sculpture and talked about the fragility of the fabric and Tyla fabric, he said "is possible that the dress become unweareable after leave the body" so is even more tied up with sleeping beauty theme

Hourglass for Tyla!!! *Chefs kiss* her style team nailed it!!!! I mean she has an hourglass figure so all the metaphors are there… beautifully done!

I did like Lana Del Rey's look at first, I recognized it the moment I saw it. However, seeing the recreation and reinterpreted piece next to a photo of the actual McQueen Widows of Culloden piece made me...sad, for lack of a better word. It could have been so much better, and I feel like that's a summary of how Seán McGirr's time at McQueen has been.

Tyla is such a popstar! she hands down was the best dressed by a mile!

I was all in for Tyla's look. Not boring, actually digging deeper into the theme (unlike 99% of attendees...) and feeling somewhat cohesive to her style and personality imho.
As for Zendaya...I think Margiela look was perfect for the occasion AND for her. It had just right amount of pizzas, volume, reference and styling to stand out, but not feel outlandish for me. The second look could feel like miss because for me the volume overwhelmed the statue and there was no strong counterpoint on the top (face, make-up) aside of that headpiece to balance the overwhelming sea of black. Shall the giant skirt had more dimension to be reflected on photos, it could register better I think.
My biggest question was: who exactly chose Chris Hemsworth was co-chair..? His look was a no-look, referencing more of wannabe playboy for 80s than anything vaguely connected with the actual theme, his wife's look was underwhelming...

I was disappointed with many of the guests, I felt that many played it safe, even Zendaya!!

I did love Tyla's look, that was iconic!!!

John and Pat have always done that particular makeup look. It’s not just riding on the coattails of the viral couture makeup look. They’ve always done some version of that particular makeup look. IMO. You’re adorable btw 😍

Do a part 2 and talk about Lewis Hamilton. I'd say his look is definitely one of my favorites even though it might be simple, but the story behind it is dope

Part 2 pls!!! Also remember that Emma has to interview during the whole met gala, so it’s impractical for her to do something ground-breaking. Shes going to be on camera all night so practical but on-point and also flattering is exactly what she needed to wear! Shes needs to be comfy on camera because we OBSESS over her vogue interviews

Edit: but also I freaking adore you and your channel thank you for your service 🫶🏻

Should be renamed "Cry for Attention Festival"

What I noticed was the lack of designers there . The pictures I’ve seen hardly any shown and what I also noticed no Gucci at all. Interesting

Any idea why some fashion houses weren't represented at the met gala? I didn't see anything by Versace, D&G or Louis Vutton
