The 2019 Robinson R66 Turbine Helicopter

We are back with the Robinson R66 Helicopter. This time, I’m at the Robinson helicopter headquarters in Torrance CA. I saw the R66 for the first time in Orlando Florida at the NBBA convention, which I featured here on MojoGrip. I’ve since gotten a lot of interest and questions about the Turbine helicopter that I reached out to Robinson for a proper tour.

In this video, we take a quick tour around the R66, and Monica who is a seasoned helicopter pilot will be taking us around. Robinson is one of the top Helicopter manufacturers around the world. they have a model aircraft that fits just about any mission, from training, to tour, to medical usage. The Robinson R66 can be used for all different missions.

R66 is powered by a 300 HP Turbine Rolls royce engine. The helicopter will seat up to 5 people and climb out at over 1000 ft per minute. you also have a massive luggage area that can carry up to 300 lbs of load. The R66 starts at just under $1 million. Price will vary base don options you get with the helicopter.

Flapping is up and down motion of the blades relative to the axis of motion in forward flight to compensate for dissymmetry of lift. Feathering is a slang term for cyclic feathering, which is pitch changes in opposite directions on each blade, caused by pilot input on the cyclic stick, used to control the helicopter in pitch and roll.

The T-Bar cyclic design also allows for greater lateral movement (left & right) - This reduces the sensitivity of the cyclic, making maneuvers like slope-landings easier to learn.

Well i say its notable as a person speaking in the video that its really wonderful to see a black man with a positive career in this field be as well spoken and very easy to be around . there is a stereotype that has made the african american is slang spoken and is hip hop drug peddled person with no future. Im married to a black woman and her many attractive. Features are thar she speaks very articulate when meeting her and talking of topics of the world. But mike you deserve to be known and welcomed into the private homes to teach us more in the future....

Compared to other helicopters with the same utility the R66 is very economical. I would switch to two separate sets of controls to include 2 collectives

Which is the advantage of the r66 turbine over the r44 piston engine in range and economy?

That T-Bar cyclic looks to me to get in the way of all the instruments behind it. Is that partly or wholly true?

I think they should shorten the mast and attach a four blade fully articulated rotor system

I hope they eventually adopt a decent rotor system in a Robinson. They are a horror in low G conditions.

Can you ask them about the R44, seems to be having great success. Oh...except for that one that crashed in Hawaii. Too soon? Also did they remove that crash and burn option that was on the R44?

Was, hoping for a more detailed discussion about the helicopter, not how the controls work. Also a flight would have been nice altho i didnt watch to the end. It got boring

Mike, you should familiarize yourself a little more with helicopters and the terminology used to describe them. I believe it would help you to produce a more in-depth video. Keep up the good work.

I didnt like da Robinson helicopter it crashes a lot but after seeing da R 66 with its turbine rolce royce n da auto pilot n its nice touch screen panel n i got a clear info about the cyclic i didnt like now i guess that will b a nice helicopter thnx mr frank

Cool helicopter but this definitely wasn't that good of a video because she didn't step out in from of the camera and honestly the interviews with pilots and salesman are the best

Are Robinsons still considered one of the safest helicopters? i read somewhere they have a very high crash survival rate.
