In this episode of Making It Work, one woman explains why she'll never invest in crypto, and why she prefers to keep her money in other investments.

Through weekly video essays, "Making It Work" showcases how *real* people have upgraded their personal or financial lives in some meaningful way. Making your life work for you doesn't mean getting rich just for the sake of it. It means making the most of what you have to build a life you love, both in your present and in your future. And while managing money is a crucial life skill for everyone, there's no one "right way" to go about it — you have to figure out what works best for *you,* full stop.

Please don't edit out *all* the breaths, I feel out of breath by the middle of this video, and it's hard to retain information when it goes by so quickly. And this is information I'm already familiar with...

I'm so happy to see a person such as yourself who actually works in the financial industry saying these things. I myself don't feel right about investing in crypto, it seems that the current form of money we have is still dominant, and I'd rather invest in ways that I am guaranteed a set outcome.

As a beginner who don't understand how crypto trade really works and you really want to make profit from it. I will advise you to first start working with a professional

Investment is the key to sustaining your financial longevity. And not just any investment but an investment with guaranteed returns. Also do proper research and invest with the right approach. Stocks, real estate, Hedge funds and ETFs are good investments as well. 🙂

Cryptocurrencies are not currencies. They are a speculative investment vehicles that bear a striking resemblance to Ponzi schemes. I have yet to see a use case for crypto or blockchain which couldn't be better addressed by other existing technology.

Hey TFD. I'm a fan and love to share your videos with friends and family. Many of which are non native speakers. It would be helpful if you can slow down a bit when narrating and always activate the transcription on your videos (cc). Cheers from Sudan 🇸🇩

NFTs are and always have been a scam. If you don't agree, could I interest you in this NFT of the Brooklyn Bridge?

Worth adding that the thing about how in the future there will be uses for it seeing as some countries already use it - in those countries it's been basically pushed by corrupt officials and if it was meant to somehow combat hyperinflation or whatever... it definitely failed at that

Video idea, I would love to see a video about finances surrounding disability. Such as a financial confessions video with a person who has a disability and how that pertains to their relationship with money. I have a chronic illness and it greatly affects my ability to work, but I'm not technically disabled enough to draw disability benefits. How does one factor that into financial planning? Thank you for your time and consideration!

I'm also a woman working in the finance industry ... I won't put my money in an "investment" until I can see a long track record of how it performs in good times and bad.

For that reason, I don't consider crypto or NFTs a sensible investment. They are a gamble ... 40 years from now, when it's retirement time, they might build to a tidy nest egg ... or they may be worth exactly nothing. I won' tell anyone not to buy them, but only buy as much as you can afford to lose completely.

What do I invest in? Only one thing ... a total stock market mutual fund. While individual stocks come and go, the market as a whole has increased steadily over the last 100+ years. It's as safe as you can get while still outpacing inflation.

I never understood the hype over cryptocurrency

I have seen a lot of people, mostly men, gamble away their savings on crypto. Riding the highs and eventually bottoming out. What upsets me so much is they have families to support and children to feed. I, like you, think they would’ve been better off going to the casino and at least having a good time and free drinks.

Good grief, this really brought out the crypto spambots, now didn't it?

Holy fuck, the full time crypto supporters came out in force.

Then again, if my entire life savings was based on lying on the internet to keep up hype for a dying commodity like crypto and NFT's, I'd be fucking panicked too. Lol.

Definitely agree that crypto is gambling, not investing.

Can you interview Dan Olson from Folding Ideas as part of your interview series? I think he’d be fantastic.

A lot of these shorter videos with this narrator are a bit too fast and I’m seeing others comment that too. I can keep up some but I listen to these videos while working around the house and had to rewind twice to re catch something. Especially for non native English speakers y’all may want to slow down the pace for your audience.

That last line is super, extremely important for everyone to understand: "For now, however, I am content to watch as people's gambles on cryptocurrency either makes them millionaires or fools."

Getting (or not getting) into cryptocurrency shouldn't be seen as some kind of personality defining decision for the people that go into it for financial reasons. It's an investment choice made by people with different thresholds of risk aversion, and your threshold for risk is going to determine how you want to approach cryptocurrency.

We don't insult people for choosing or not choosing the high risk options on their 401k accounts. Maybe we should all try to be a bit more civil and have that same level of good manners for cryptocurrency as well.
