I stumbled across these videos by accident and have to say what a great series. I can honestly say I have learned more in these seventy minutes than I have in months of wading through theory books! Thank you, thank you.

Thank you for this. The format of this whole series is perfect. A little theory, a little visualization, perfect and plenty examples, all the while not losing sight of the big picture which is what we are all here for.

This channel explains music to me better than any resource I've stumbled upon on the internet. Everything is impossibly easy to absorb. The low views on these videos are criminal compared to how many people would benefit from watching them.

I always liked to think of basic swing as being almost polyrhythmic. If you take a hat pattern that's playing a straight 16th note triplet pattern and remove the hits between the first and third hit, you'll get a swing pattern. If you take a straight 13th note pattern and take out all the hits but the first and last, you'll get that "drunk" feel shuffle pattern. Doing this with any straight pattern will yield a different swing feel.

Research has shown drummers tend to go from light to hard swing as tempo of a song increases. I like the 5:3 swing, it's in between light and medium swing and it syncs well with eights.

It would be great if you could finish off this series with a video on dynamics.

I find playing with guys that are good at swing to be the most exhilarating part about playing music. The question is, how much should you vary swing from phrase to phrase, if at all. And still stay coherent. Because it can get predictable like anything else. An unexpected change in swing really makes you hold onto your hat and move your feet!
