They are saying that this has been the hottest summer of record thus far. So one thing that I know we have to start talking about in our backyard gardens is microclimates. There's no way that we can get around it. In order for us to grow and be successful throughout these summer months, we have to start interplanting and using the garden to protect the garden. In other words, using our summer plants - to protect other plants that don't do as well during this summer heat. We're talking Microclimates....

Companion planting is the most important thing that I have learned when gardening. I wasn’t a believer until I was overrun with tomato hornworms. Started companion planting Marigolds, borage, and basil around my tomatoes and haven’t had hornworms in YEARS. Not to mention the extra pollinators and tastes. Thank you for you channel. Mm.. I agree. I took my patio table umbrellas and stuck em in the garden, using those metal tent ground stakes, just to shade out this crazy hot sun! The bush beans and cukes are now producing SO much better. I've ordered one of those overhead diagonal sun shades for now, until I can rearrange the garden or think of something more sensible. This "new" heat is scary and potentially so damaging. Thanks for the reminder
