HOW TO USE AQUATIC EXPERT'S 1.5' BIO BALLS

FILTRATION! Each bio ball is covered in spines to dramatically increase the surface area of each ball to nearly 2 square feet providing space for a massive number of beneficial bacteria to colonize. These good bacteria break down harmful waste keeping your aquatic friends safe.

TOUGH AND UNIQUE! Our bio balls’ spherical shape and precise spine placement permits them to pack tightly into any shape or filter type without losing surface area. Molded from high density plastic, these balls are lightweight but tough enough to keep their shape and will never degrade or wear out. Bio balls can be used loose or in the mesh bag with plastic zipper.

TRUSTED POND MEDIA! Our Bio balls are 100% polypropylene making them a safe reliable bio filter media for fresh and saltwater. They are manufactured for use in koi and water garden ponds, freshwater fish tanks, saltwater aquariums, aquaponics, fish hatcheries and much more.

SUPERIOR TO LAVA ROCK: Over time, porous lava rock becomes clogged with debris decreasing its surface area so that its ability to house and grow good beneficial bacteria plummets. Our pond bio balls’ uniquely spaced spines allow most debris to pass right through them. Lava rock has tiny pores which make it difficult to clean while bio balls in most applications never need cleaning. A bag of wet lava rock is many times heavier than our pond balls.

EASY TO CLEAN - When organic waste builds up in the bioballs, they can be gently rinsed in dechlorinated wate to remove debris and refresh the bioballs.

For Aquariums- Layer our FilterFirst, dual density bonded filter pad, water polishing pad, then followed by our 1" or 1.5" Bio Balls.

For Ponds- Layer our Bio Balls, Coarse (Black) Pad or 2" (Cream) Pad then, followed by our White (Fine) filter pad.

Can these be used in canister filters? Some people say bio balls are to only be used in a sump or moving bed filter. I like the idea of bio balls not clogging. One less thing to worry about.

Used to be able to buy the same bioballs used in industry. Now Amazon just has the crap cheapo kind for higher price. Lava rock it is.

We have a 10000 liter foil pond without fish, but with amphibians and water and shore plants. Filtering is via a 9000l biotec and afterwards over a plant filter. We provide extra oxygen through a swimm skim of oasis that removes surface dirt and loose thread algae. I put a dose of bacterial in the filter every week. We have no ammonia. The water is clean, but we still have quite a lot of filamentous algae. Could bioballs provide added value and completely combat the filamentous algae infestation?

Do I need a filter for these? We turned our pool into a pond - we do nothing but aerate it (deep end is nearly 9) ... The koi and plants are fine. The purpose was to free myself from filter, etc. So can these just hang out in the bag ...

So basically the balls allow bacteria to grow on them and nothing else?

Thanks for the video. Just a quick question, how much water does a given amount of bioballs treat?

I know there are all sorts of bioballs, but what is the general "rule of thumb" on the amount needed?
