Clever Honeybee Dodges Giant Hornet and Slips Into Hive

A Giant hornet (Vespa mandarinia) is lingering in front of a Western honeybee (Apis mellifera) hive, trying to attack the bees as they come and go. A returning honeybee, flying swiftly, carefully watched for an opportunity. The honeybee dodged an attack from the Giant hornet and entered the hive from behind while the hornet was distracted, scratching its head and grooming its antennae.
