Labyrinth Reaction-Diffusion Turing Pattern - Morphogenesis

Показать описание
Reaction-Diffusion digitally simulates how two chemicals diffuse out into the wider environment. Here we see how a handful of scattered seed points meld into space, with some fading out while others multiplying. At the end with pulsing dynamics as the spots interact.
This animation is based on the Gray-Scott Reaction-Diffusion model that describes how two chemicals diffuse within space. The model sets the rates at which two chemicals either grow or decay as they diffuse, this can then create complex forms, patterns, and dynamics depending upon the initial conditions and how the settings are calibrated.
Reaction-Diffusion systems can produce a wide diversity of forms, from small spots that split and seemingly replicate, to swirling waves that propagate across space, to chaotic fluctuating forms that sporadically pulses in and out of existence.
This all highlights that from a relatively simple set of rules, if attuned right, the underlying processes can create complex emergent forms much as we find across the natural world. Raising questions as to what natural processes may underpin the complexity we find within nature
This animation was procedurally generated in SideFX Houdini. Houdini is a procedural, node-based software used for VFX, and generative design. Within Houdini you can create non-destructive workflows that process data and compute operations, allowing for the creation of complex systems that can create forms beyond conventional design.
One & Other is a London based interdisciplinary studio fusing complex ideas from maths, science, and philosophy with an elegant, understated design. We produce minimalist clothing and accessories with meaningful ideas as there core, alongside exploring the deeper significance of ideas online.
