I was really sceptical when I saw your video title but I have to say you summed it up pretty well. I used to listen to music while learning when I was younger but ever since I had a deep education on this topic and dedicated 4 years of my life to getting as good as possible I can't listen to music while learning anymore. I've gotten to the point where it is even distracting me from listening to videos like this one. I believe that this happens because my brain has been trained in fully concentrating on music.

I had hoped it was better to study with music but I always get distracted more easily with music on so now I study in silence (or as close to silence as possible) and it has helped with productivity for me.

YAAASSSS, I was waiting for this video so long!

Anyway, I'm using music to study, because of two things:
1. It keeps me focus.
2. I don't want to hear a TV playing behind me.
I'm using several different music genres, for example:
1. I'm a huge metal fan and I'm using this mostly for studying, because I enjoy it the most and it keeps me focus.
2. I love soundtracks from medieval-themed games. My favourites are "Robin Hood: Defender Of The Crown" (my favourite game ever, BTW.) and the whole "Assassin's Creed" soundtrack. Also, I love battle music and artists like Immediate Music or Future World Music.
3. When I'm reading an essential reading which plot takes place in XVIII century, I'm listening to some piano music.

I just love studying with music and you are wright, when i am studying maths i listen to rock, when i study science i listen to classic music, and it helped me :)

I have found that one of the best genres to write or work to is progressive trance, house, or other instrumental EDM. Really helps put me in the zone.

I just discovered this video and it explained everything that always happened for me. I'm in design major. When I should draw something that has a sad atmosphere, I listen to sad or calm music and so when I should draw something that has a happy atmosphere, I listen to happy and upbead music.

And yes, it is really distracting to hear a lyrical song when working with unfamiliar subject or when writing something (in my case, when I'm working my civic or sosiology assignment)
