NOTE: I do what I want, say what I want, and these interviews are not planned. In other words, leaving a comment that I am paid to say what I say is just plain stoopid. Unless you know how to get me paid for these? :)

Some viewers, and I myself have been looking for a good lapel mic. I want it SMALL, and most importantly, it NEEDS TO SOUND GOOD.

I have lapels from $19 to $500, and almost gave up finding one that is built well, small, and sounds as good as my favorite shotgun mic.

I approached Andrew at Deity, and although I was skeptical at first, once I was in their sound booth and he hooked me up (I made sure the audio I was hearing was all zeroed and raw), I was blown away, especially at the under $200 price point.

Deity is an offshoot company of Aputure, and they are using the same formula - make ultra high-quality gear that works, and make it affordable for filmmakers and people doing videos that don't have a bazillion dollars to spend on equipment.

Out of all the things I saw at NAB, this is on my top 10 list of things that are awesome.

Not available yet, but as soon as it is, I'm getting one for review, and if it sounds as good as the preliminary copy I tested, the rest of my lapels are going bye-bye and I'll order another two or three of these.

*Another in a series of questions you asked me to find out while at NAB. I am SUPER IMPRESSED with how tiny and how good these sound, and the price point is awesome for these! Sorry I didn't do live tests - I want to get my hands on the actual production units when they become available and test those as that is what you would be buying.*

Awesome video Kevin 😁 considering you love/hate relationship with lapel mics I'd be interested in hearing/seeing your thoughts on Deity's V.Lav in a video at some point in the foreseeable future.

He definitely says "Just don't go swimming with it"

Looks good but the proof is in the pudding so will be good to hear a full on review

I saw them, but sadly did not get a chance to formally do a sit and chat. Next year, I’m gonna speak with them. Good job!

I have so many lav mics. I avoid all of them if I have a choice. It's not just the tone, its all the other potential unintended noises. clothes, jewelry, lanyards, hands, noise from the cable, If you have a recorder on the person, you can't monitor. If you use wireless, there is the chance of a drop in signal. Sure you can monitor it, but you still might not be able to fix it. and that uncomfortable moment when you have to get it onto the person. If I can get a mic on a stick within 20" of the talent's face, I'll use that option every time. I'm glad Diety is making stuff like this, so when we have to use one, at least we are giving ourselves the best chance of getting decent sound. Thanks for the NAB coverage BFM! I look foward to your reviews on some of this stuff.

Should do a test, or have a mic-off, or a lav-off between a Rode, Deity and Giant Squid, to cover all price points.
I use lav mics in the worst possible conditions for recording good audio: in a helmet while riding a motorcycle (all weather).
I'm currently using Rode lav mic in my helmet for my motovlogging. I've tried a cheap $30 lav mic from Best Buy (brand name: "Insignia"), and it wasn't horrible, but it isn't as good as the Rode (noticeably).
The Rode Lav mic has a kevlar-reinforced cable but, someday, it will fail and I'll need a replacement (I prefer to buy replacements before I need them), so I'm keen to see the reviews on these lav mics from Deity.
(*looks like you're having a blast at NAB, BFM) :)
