There were actually only 3 main successor states of the eastern roman empire, Epirus, Nikaia, and Trebzond. Epirus went nuts early on and conquered large amounts of Greece from the Latins, including Thessaloniki, which is why later they rebranded themselves as the empire of Thessalonika. Im guessing this is where the confusion came from, it's not a completely new successor state its more like the final form of Epirus ig is the best way I can describe it. The thessalonika you have marked on the map at around the 2 minute mark is actually a latin/frankish/western vassal of the latin emperor, and iirc should've been further subdivided but I might be wrong on that. Either way great video tho keep it up

Great video! There were also the Armenian Amatuni nobles of hamshen, in Trebizond who like the Laz were also against the rulers. Super interesting history. Great work

Contrary to popular belief, the Trebizond Empire and its people were never seen as Roman by the Eastern Roman Empire. The rulers of the country's territory, which was referred to as the "Laz Border State" by the Eastern Roman historian Yeoryos Pahimeris, were also referred to as "Laz Kings". The Emperors of Trebizond, who were called Tzanika/Canik Kings by the Seljuk Dynasty, were defined as "Tzaniti Kings" by Historian Ibni Bibi.

Halfway through I started to wonder is this relevant somehow to now. It's almost like someone writing history long ago had a coughing fit and lost ink all over certain pages of history or in this case..herstory as well. Most excellent engaging of my mind.

Why were the groups called Karakoyunlu or Akkoyunlu? Did they have white and black sheep? or was that symbolical to them?
