FIMI X8 SE 2020 - BETTER 5 MONTHS LATER? THERE ARE IMPROVEMENTS...

I updated to the latest, calibrated everything and tested the gimbal tilt issues, the overexposed cloud blow outs and the over traveling turns. See for yourself what is better and what isn't. There is some improvements I am pleased with but still some that are a deal breaker.

For a handful that don’t get
I am simply making a video of what works and what doesn’t along with sharing image quality and my color corrections.
I’m not saying it’s a bad quad, I’m not saying don’t buy it and I’m not saying you get what you pay for either. I always show pro’s and con’s and give fixes when applicable and that’s what you’re getting here.

Whilst I can appreciate those that bought this drone for doing photography and videography in regards to the concerns that they have. I'm neither a photographer nor a videographer I love my Fimi it is so much better than the first drone I owned so I have no problem with it at all

It's a 360$USD unit delivered. That aside a similarly sized drone is twice that price at least, upwards of 1400$. Comparisons have to be taken with a grain of salt. You are going to give something up for the cost difference. Now not saying the issues aren't annoying, they definitely are. But FIMI is not a drone specific company like DJI Fimi is a small electronics company. Phones, tablets, cameras, headphones so they do not have the dedication of support. It is nice to see some updates and I hope it continues. I'd say it definitely is the best bang for the buck.

Owned it for 2 weeks, 9 flights so far with tons of video, getting an hour of footage on 2 batteries and I have it max'd to 5km range and 500m height. 500m height no problem, i am getting maybe 2.5km range however i am in northern cal suburbia, i did buy the antenna extensions, super cheap but they do make a big difference in preventing it defaulting to "fail safe return" way too early. Sport mode is super fast and the gimbal is very good. Really good drone and i would rate well above the DJI mavic mini. Best drone on the market right now is Autel Evo 2, then the DJI mavic pro 2 .... .and I think this Fimi 2020 is a super close 3rd, maybe i got a good one based on other reivews. very very good value for $$$'s at $400 and very very wind capable, will post footage from Bodega bay and out at Farallon islands soon in tough conditions

I took a gamble with the Zino 2. But after this video I won't purchase this quad. I would think after the horizon tilt on the first Fimi x8 they would of fixed the issue. But I'm staying tune to more of your content with this quad.. Look forward to more great content as always.. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Actually, I like the "dampening" quality of the keft and right pans...where it "over-travels" as you say. Sudden stops are jarring for the viewer, and seem like a security camera. For me, the dampening is a feature (perhaps unintended) that I was looking for. Really good zoom cameras will do that as well. They will ease in and ease out of the zoom, rather than stopping suddenly. Anyhow, color looks great. i just ordered one.

Thank you for this honest review. I purchased this Drone a few months ago and have had the same issues. I had the 2018 version and actually thought the camera produced a better image.

I wish there was more honest reviews like this and not just people out of " Idaho" saying it's great and probably making a comisson. I wish wish I would have paid the extra money and got the air 2

Refreshing to see a meaningful assessment of the x8 2020. The color profile has definitely improved. Mine originally had a horrible purple hue. I am not holding my breath on a fimi fix for the horizon tilt. It was never fixed on 2018 and still exists on 2020. Thanks for not abandoning your fimi!

Hi Chris, Thank you for doing the video. Very nicely done. Couple questions : Assuming that you left Gimbal Pitch, Gimbal Gain, and the Gain & Expo settings all to the default, would adjusting any of these settings help with turning to far left or right when you let off the sticks? You mentioned at the beginning of the video a six side calibration ? What or how do you do a six side calibration ? Thanks again

Great Test...I'm happy to see the video image has improved. The over traveling and horizon is an issue which I hope they correct. It shouldn't be to hard with just a firmware update.

Great Job Chris, Hopefully Fimi was watching your assessment, They are getting closer to refinement, For 347 .00 dollar's, I think it's not a bad bird, Also for the amount of power, and how it can handel high winds, I hope they will fix the horizon and yaw over travel will be fixed, I bet if you would take a count, the amount of people who own this bird, it would definitely be more of any other Drone around the world, for the price for sure. You can calibrate the Gimbel to fix the horizon. And i found it does that in sport mode not as much in lower speeds. It stops good..

Quick question... I believe you said you had a CPL filter on the cam, did you try an ND filter as well on this same day to see if you can lower the shutter speed using that?

Had one and though it was a nice drone, but that damn tilt just ruined it for me, ended up selling it and getting a used Air 2, love it! I will say I liked the way the Fimi flew more then the DJI, the Mavic seems floaty feeling when flying.
