I was actually looking for how to disable this 😆 I love Blender I've been using it for many many years since 2.6.something. But it's absolute nightmare when you mess something up and enable some weird unknown feature by accident.

For 2.82a you just need to toggle Split Edges & Faces and it should work

I had a little issue on precisely moving loop cuts until figuring out the problem was exactly auto-merging vertices. It is important to know the resource but the implications as well!
