I am in my office today and decided to have THE KINKS playing on Youtube while I work. This BAND is so under rated.... My favorite song; Superman

For me, the most influential group on British rock/pop ever. Jeez you can hear garage rock, punk rock, heavy metal, glam rock ("King Kong!") in The Kinks, a long time before anyone else was doing it. Listen to "You Really Got Me" ---- and then think of the year it came out. It has to be the heaviest thing on the radio of its day, heavier than The Who sounded. Then they shifted off into something else. It's the one band you could tell were British. The Kinks said you could talk about council houses and village greens. Top of the Pops and Dead End Streets. You could complain about fame and fortune. The Kinks just kicked ass. As said, for me, the most important British band. You can hear The Kinks in modern British pop to this day. And the Britpop wave of the 90's owed more to The Kinks than The Beatles. Even David Bowie was more Kinks than Beatles. So anyone who was influenced by him, carried The Kinks onward.

On this day in 1965 {April 16th} the Kinks performed "Everybody's Gonna Be Happy" on the British ITV network television program, 'Ready Steady Go!'....
At the time the song was at position #22 on the United Kingdom's Top 50 Singles chart, the following week it would peak at #17 {for 1 week} and it spent eight weeks on the Top 50...
Between 1964 and 2007 the London-based quartet had twenty-nine records on the UK Singles chart, fourteen made the Top 10 with three* reaching #1, "You Really Got Me" {for 2 weeks in 1964}, "Tired of Waiting For You" {for 1 week in 1965}, and "Sunny Afternoon" {for 2 weeks in 1966}...
They just missed having a total of six #1s when three of their records peaked at #2, "All Day and All of the Night" {for 2 weeks in 1964}, "Waterloo Sunset" {for 2 weeks in 1967}, and "Lola" {for 1 weeks in 1970}...
Original bassist Peter Quaife passed away at the age of 66 on June 23rd, 2010...
May he R.I.P
.

Good band, but this one sounds a little like the lesser Dave Clark 5.
