The image: What I love about this tiny scene is not just the usual ascetic brilliance as the light falls on Fontaine and Jost's faces - but the series of quiet knocks that takes place on the wall between the cells between Fontaine and Blanchet - especially Blanchet's seven knocks (which I have slightly amplified - why? - because that is the sound of hope and humanity in a world that has been drained of such luxuries). I love this scene. It gives me hope too.
