I do the same job but in Italy. Here septic tanks are smaller (talking about 1000l for a family house), not buried and usually pumped annually. But every once in a while you meet one you don't immediately spot because of various reasons. Once I was at a house where the landlady was certain the tank was in at least three different places we ended up unsuccessfully probing until we made her aware to the fact that we were going to charge her more if we couldn't find the tank easily and she called her husband who knew where the tank was and it was nowhere near what she said.

When I was pumping tanks I'd the driver couldn't locate the tank we'd call in the company specialist with all the goodies and eventually find the tank. Other than probes we didn't have locate equipment on each truck.
